GILES SMITH (secretsundaze, Two Armadillos, Tsuba, Dessous)

If you live in London you probably know Giles Smith but for those of you who don't here is the story of his long list of achievements

Giles' love affair with all things House and Techno was sparked at the beginning of the 90's after hearing it on the radio. Before long the voodoo lure of the dancefloor and club life was too much to resist and he fell head long into his obsession.
Despite collecting records from the age of 15, it wasn't until moving to London in 2000 after completing his degree that Giles began DJing. Within a very short space of time he made his mark, earning a coveted residency for the Junior Boys Own affiliated Faith parties. Here he played alongside UK stalwarts such as X-Press 2 and Terry Farley and international guests such as Doc Martin, Kerri Chandler and Dubtribe.

Soon after, inspired by hedonistic cutting edge clubs both in the UK and Ibiza, Giles and a group of friends launched secretsundaze in 2001. In a short period of time, secretsundaze became the hottest ticket in town for both guest DJ's / Live Act's (Ricardo Villalobos, Carl Craig, Steve Bug, Luciano, Ame, Losoul, Ivan Smagghe, Jay Haze, Rhadoo, Cobblestone Jazz, Mountain People, Keith Worthy and Jus Ed to name a few); and party people from all over Europe. These colourful summer Sunday daytime parties have also made secretsundaze the darling of the UK media with it being voted "Best Club Night" by readers of Time Out in London in "The Time Out Live Awards 2005" and awarded the accolade "Club of The Year" in the January 2006 edition of Mixmag. secretsundaze also became known for taking risks with bookings, breaking new, fresh talent in the UK, something which Giles was largely responsible for. The buzz about secretsundaze has also spread across Europe with hugely successful parties taking place in Ibiza (2005 / 2006), Sonar Festival In Barcelona (2005 / 2006/ 2007/2008/2009/2010/2011). Miami (2009) and Snowbombing in Austria among many others.

During this period, Giles' reputation has soared with him being named "Best New DJ" in 2003 by Time Out magazine. He has played many of the UK's most respected parties / venues from smaller more underground venues such as The Key, Plastic People, 93 Feet East to larger venues such as Fabric (Room 1), Back to Basics, The Sub Club and internationally Panorama Bar, Watergate, Robert Johnson , The Rex, Priviledge and The Underground in Ibiza, Love in New York and various clubs in Tokyo to name just a few.

Musically his style is focussed around Deep House and Techno with a warm, hypnotic feel. However his sets draw on many styles from Chicago to Detroit to more modern European influences. Most of all though, Giles' sets are noted for their strong programming, passion integrity and his unwavering ability to uncover hidden gems both new and old.

In 2005 Giles was approached to join the reviews team of the internationally renowned magazine DJ, reviewing the "Techno" section, something which he did for 5 years until very recently.

His first record was released in 2006 alongside Dan Berkson but its his "Two Armadillos" project with Martin Dawson that has gained the most attention,. Over the last 3 years the duo have made a significant dent in the consciousness of most underground House and Techno DJs with their deep, warm and natural sound appearing on labels such as Dessous ,BangBang!, Sthlm Audio, Buzzin Fly, Motivbank, Four:Twenty and secretsundaze music. They have also bagged remixes for Dessous (Dan Berkson and James What ft. Robert Owens) The Discowboys (Steve Bug and Vincenzo) and Mood Music (Kiki) and their releases have been remixed by the likes of Sascha Dive, Tobias and Andomat 3000 and Jan. Giles and his secretsundaze co-resident James Priestley also got together to remix Tobi Neuman and Onur Ozur's Sensitiva Project. Giles's tracks have been licensed to compilations such as Arpiars mix for Circo Loco's 10 Year Anniversary; Steve Bug's "Bugnology 3"; Mathew Dear's "Body Language" and Claude Von Stroke's "At The Controls".

He has also mixed and compiled two critically acclaimed mix CD's for secretsundaze alongside his co-resident James Priestley, with the third cd "10 years of secretsundaze," on the way. Secretsundaze Volume's 1 and 2 have both been hugely well received by the public and journalists alike. Both showcase Giles' exemplary selection skills and deft mixing. Refusing to go down the well troden generic ableton route Giles chose to mix Volume 1 live at homewith no software just 2 1210's and a mixer wanting a raw, natural and 100% real vibe.
Mid 2009 Giles was asked to contribute a mix to the hallowed Resident Advisor podcast series which received huge praise from the international community once again eschewing the ableton route for a raw, natural and honest approach.

2010 was another strong year for Giles and indeed Two Armadillos with them completing remixes for legendary 90's label R&S remixing regular Planet E artists Psychotron. Giles was also approched to mix the 11th edition of the AudioFamilies download / podcast series with other artists previously being Damian Lazarus, Jacques Renault and John Tejada. With gigs forthcoming in 2010 in Frankfurt, Berlin, Paris, Lisbon, Zurich, Gothenburg, Munich, Israel to name a few there seems to be no stopping this English gentleman.

2011 is shaping up nicely too with the highly anticipated Two Armadillos "People Of The World" EP release out on the secretsundaze imprint getting worldwide support from the likes of Argy, Keith Worthy, Dorian Paic and Ralph Lawson to name a few.

SOHO ( Phonica - Culprit )

Soho has steadily established himself within the london underground scene. born & raised in the middle east, growing up in a region not really known for its pioneering electronic sound, yet he was still able to find music that would inspire him within his parents record collection..an avid collector of music from a young age, everything from pop through to jazz, disco, rock and hip hop..as a vinyl purist it was a natural progression for soho to move on to spinning records in 1999. Since then his eclectic dj sets have been a mixture of deep, groovy, house & techno as well as everything in between! his sets are always catered for the right moments, either for a warm up set or at peak time.

Making a move to london in 2003 to go to art school and study photography, but also to submerge himself into london’s underground nightlife and pursue his passion for music...strating out as resident of the Multi Vitamins collective, along side other established artists like; Cesar Merveille, Argy, ekkohaus, arnaud le texier & the Italoboyz, to name a few. Now you can catch soho regularly playing all over London, either as a resident for phonica records, or at east end warehouse parties, or manning the turntables at various other London venues.

Not only satisfied with dj’ing soho has also been working in the studio creating his own blend of house & techno. pressing his tracks on established labels like kailash, multi vitamins and safari electronique as well as a few digital labels. he has been lucky to see his productions charted by djs ranging from ryan Crosson to raresh & marcel dettmann.

Presently soho is an employee of london’s own phonica records and continues on his musical ventures providing the dance floors with the material which makes your hips shake and your ears taste the exquisite goodness.

JORDI MAS ( ETM - Le Borgne )

Catalan DJ and producer Jordi Mas has established himself as an influential and respected member of London's bustling electronic music scene. Born and raised in a small city on the outskirts of Barcelona, Jordi discovered his passion for dance music at an early age and has since dedicated himself to exploring its depths.

A character who’s track selection reflects his ever increasing knowledge of musical history. Never dull, constantly evolving and with a firm appreciation of decades of house and techno music, the above attributes are stemmed elegantly through his sets; Jordi Mas knows how to hold his floor. Jordi became a regular face and dj of Sounderground Recs. and has had a solid calendar of appearances around London and Europe in the last few years. Headlining several times the ever-popular Wet Yourself! Night at Fabric, playing at the late and great T-Bar, Half Baked and lo*kee and his delivery of epic sets with his Excuse The Mess residency are just a handful of what we have seen from this artist.

His first release, a re-working of a house classic in collaboration with Cecille’s Anthea was released last year. The release received encouraging feedback and became a regular feature on the dance floors of Ibiza being played by Mathias Tanzmann, Federico Molinari and Robert Dietz. As he focuses more and more on honing his production skills, it is safe to say that you can expect more from this artist, a lot more.

SONOGAMA ( Sounderground - WOM )

Ayoze Chico and Ollie Mendez met each other at the beginning of the 90s thanks to the same interest and enthusiasm for "House music".

Their paths crossed again in 2007 in London. Ayoze, already responsible for Sounderground Records (sounderground.co.uk) and dedicated to music production, invited Ollie to hang out in the studio in order to see what it was all about.
After some time in the studio, and realizing that they were sharing the same musical tastes and interest in the same type of sound, they decided to create the project "Sonogama".

Not long after this, Sonogama started to be known and appreciated on the underground scene. Between them they have gained a lot of experience playing for clubs like T Bar, Cable, Ministry Of Sound , Aquarium, Smartie Partie, Turmills, The End/AKA in London. They have also played internationally in clubs like Barraca, Apache, Eolica Festival, Magma Festival in Spain, Urban Affair Festival in Berlin and Blumenn Bar in Munich.

"Wink-Bias" Brothers hood E. P (Sounderground records) is just one of their productions which have stood out; being charted and supported by artists like Brothers Vibes, Brendon Moller, Shur-I-Kan, Jim Rivers, Jimpster, Ripperton to name but a few.

With some more material waiting to be released, these two will be very soon ones to watch!

RANACAT ( WOM )

Pablo Ranacat is a DJ, music producer and club night promoter based in Hackney, London. His sound is influenced by deep underground disco house and musical inspirations that have shaped his career range one and all from Prince to A Tribe Called Quest and the Beastie boys to The Beatles and Parliament - Funkadelic mixed up with Daft Punk and Moodymann.

Originally from Rosario, Argentina, he began his musical career in the mid 90’s as lead vocalist of Reyno Babylon, a 4 piece experimental band that mixed styles like hip hop, funk and disco, blended with drum machines and even some heavy riffs. The band lasted for two albums and for around seven gigging years, performing all around the main Argentine circuits (mostly Rosario and Buenos Aires), and playing at festivals and on music TV. The band was signed with an important local record label (DBN) that put out their first album and a video, which used to play on Latin MTV and the Argentine version of Canadian Much Music.

In 2002, a combination of the downturn in the Argentinean economy and the fact that he had saved his money under the mattress, led him to relocate in London where he entered into music production and DJ'ing. Since then, and through promoting club nights he’s had the chance to play at well established underground parties like Toi Toi and Exstatic Sounds and in venues like Plastic People, T-Bar, Ministry of Sound, Club 54, East Village, Aquarium, The End/AKA, Notting Hill Arts Club and Eskulap Club in Poland, among others .
