Much like the neo-minimal techno boom of the early 2000s, deep house has had a massive resurgence in recent years. Spurred on by a new generation of DJs and producers influenced by the classic sounds of Chicago, Detroit and New York, this new wave of deep house has brought back a sexy, soulful sound to underground dance music. Thanks to this trend, many deep house pioneers have been able to reignite careers and in many cases are leading the charge with some of their best material to date.
Château Flight is a collaboration between Parisian producers Nicholas Chaix (aka I:Cube) and Gilbert Cohen. The pair formed Château Flight in 1997 with an open agenda, and have since released a variety of remixes and albums on Gilbert’s Versatile label. Château Flight’s music is informed as much by dark disco and experimental as deep house and techno. Nicolas Chaix aka I:Cube is not only one of the strongest talents out of Paris, but also on the international electronic circuit. Not only is he the mastermind behind quite a few essential 12″s and albums, he has produced dozens of impressive remixes for a wide spectrum of artists, including Daft Punk, Fela Kuti, Steve Bug and Damian Lazarus.
An accomplished interactive sculptor turned music producer, Deniz Kurtel has quickly made a name for herself. Her work has been the centerpiece of countless Wolf + Lamb parties in Brooklyn. She has released popular remixes for Guy Gerber, No Regular Play, Dinky and Fables and Fairytails, making her one of the most sought after up and coming producers in deep house today. Mike Huckaby is a dance music purist extraordinaire. Being an integral part of the Detroit dance scene, he was the man behind the legendary Record Time store and as such gathered an encyclopedic knowledge of music. Plaslaiko cut his teeth working at Detroit’s famed Record Time store, selling records to some of the city’s famed DJs and producers. Plaslaiko’s keen selections and infectious energy has won over house heads.
