After the success of Marcus and dBridge at Soul:Ution back in March and Calibre's legendary performance at our show in May we had to invite the guys back up for what is set to be a night of top quality Drum & Bass music.
MARCUS INTALEX
Both as an artist and a DJ, Marcus Intalex represents the forefront of soulful musical drum & bass. Heading up the legendary Soul:r label along with long‐term collaborator ST Files (as MIST), he's worked with artists such as Calibre and Martyn and and always sought to release quality music with lasting appeal.
Marcus's DJ sets have earned him a reputation as a tastemaker, not afraid to test crowds with a fresh high quality selection from across the spectrum of drum & bass.
He represents Soul:ution with residencies in Manchester and at london's Fabric plus a radio show for Red Bull Music Academy.
Marcus’ passion for music was born in his native Manchester, where he experienced first‐hand the energy of the nascent dance music scene as a regular on the dancefloor at the legendary Hacienda club.
Regular appearances for the likes of Metalheadz, Ram and Renegade Hardware have helped Marcus to avoid the obvious tags and pigeon‐holes like ‘liquid’ and ‘minimal’ and reinforce his versatility as a DJ.
CALIBRE
Dominick Martin aka Calibre has been responsible for some of the most beautiful tracks in drum & bass to date and continues to drop jaws worldwide with his sublime and sultry productions.
From his first full length LP on Creative Source to his latest album "Even If" on his own label Signature, Calibre’s sound has progressed taking in elements of jazz, funk, dub, techno and more. Without doubt, his influence in drum & bass has been profound yet Calibre continues to evolve as an artist, exploring new techniques and styles in his music.
Having played all over the world from Belfast to Berlin and beyond, Calibre certainly knows how to captivate a crowd with sets that often feature his own exclusive tracks.
Calibre has released music on a diverse range of labels including CIA, 31 Records, Commercial Suicide, Liquid V, Bassbin, Ganja, Exit, Critical, Integral, Quarantine, Deep Medi and Digital Soundboy.
Calibre is far from a prolific DJ and prefers not to sacrifice valuable studio time in favour of extensive gigs abroad. He’s a highly capable selector behind the decks, however, the rarity of his appearances seems to make them all the more special.
MC DRS
With a reputation stretching back over 15 years, DRS is a truly versatile MC, host and lyricist. Cutting his teeth and touring worldwide with the legendary Good Looking label, his soulful style on the mic and honest lyrics are unmatched. In recent years, he’s been an integral part of the Soul:r camp, recording tracks with Mist:ical, Lynx & Kemo and Calibre as well appearing as resident MC for Soul:ution and A Bunch of Cuts nights. DRS is also part of hip-hop crew Broke’n’English, alongside fellow MC Strategy and DJ Konny Kon, and a recording artist in his own right.
DRS started MCing for Marcus Intalex in the early Hardcore raves around Manchester and Liverpool in the early 1990s, before moving south to Bournemouth on the coast in Dorset and began residences at the Opera House, Club Extreme and various South Coast drum and bass venues. In 1996 DRS hooked up with the Good Looking Organisation, joining the promotional tour for LTJ Bukem's Logical Progression Volume 1 compilation.
He has since moved onwards and upwards, working closely with fellow Mancunian's Marcus Intalex and ST Files and their Soul:r label. As well as recording tracks with Mist:ical, Lynx & Kemo and Calibre, DRS is host MC for Soul:ution nights worldwide including their bi-monthly residency at London club Fabric.
