C H A P T E R O N E
Welcome to T H E D E N. A seductive retreat laced with bespoke furnishings, a flickering crimson pad, vibrant and loose. How extraordinary it is ! Shisha smoke hangs languid in the air, the thoroughly well informed ladies and gents jive and sway to live vibrations courtesy of M O L O T O V J U K E B O X before curators of the ones and twos, P S Y C H E M A G I K reveal an extended sleazy groove of throb and pomp ! Imbibe a stiff cocktail, assert a fine wiggle, fling yourself in to the old new world of T H E D E N.
The realisation of a furtive imagination, T H E D E N is a welcome new retreat. The confines exhibit a dirty romanticism of a mythical 19th Century opium-fuelled London with a nostalgic glance to the sleazy charm of prohibition-era New York. A home for suave musicianship and elegant curators of sound T H E D E N is set to become the late night hangout of choice for the city's libertines, jive-talkers and rogues.
Central to this hazy amalgamation is a soundtrack free from constraint. Bands with a sound incorporating a breadth of influences that can combine a nod to the past with a vision for the future will be integral, whilst guest DJs will have the opportunity to play extended sets and incorporate a greater depth of styles, mixing it up and delivering a blend different to their usual. A Loft style journey from early ambiance to a heady conclusion.
In-house artist and set designer, Marie-Louise Jones, will be dressing the venue in her own unique vision introducing ornate furnishings, drapery, original artworks and indoor shisha to create the distinctive worn opulence of T H E D E N.
Born of the minds from the folk behind the Uk's best kept secret festival, F A R M F E S T I V A L, and London club night OntheROOF!, T H E D E N is set to grow and feature as a stand alone experience at F A R M F E S T I V A L 2 0 1 2, where the 4000 capacity is expected to be reached after 6 years of word-of-mouth recommendations.
M O L O T O V J U K E B O X
Blending diverse influences from gypsy to funk and dubstep to punk, M O L O T O V J U K E B O X will bring their illicit speakeasy gyp-step sounds to T H E D E N. Freshly back on British soil and ready to play in their native London town after supporting The Kooks on their European tour. London is now an increasingly rare stop-off for them due to a burgeoning worldwide following. This will be the perfect soundtrack to the opulent surroundings on the night:
P S Y C H E M A G I K (3hr set)
This month, taking us on a 3hr musical journey straight after the band will be a duo all the way from the Cosmic Forest (Kent). P S Y C H E M A G I K have made themselves famous on the nu-disco scene with a rather splendid edit of Fleetwood Mac's 'Everywhere', and more recently remixing Metronomy and Two Wounded Birds to critical acclaim. Regular DJ sets include such diverse aural pleasures as wild harmonicas, electronics, orchestras, and cosmic vocoders underpinned by deep uplifting disco beats. With Rock 'n' Roll influences coursing through their music expect much more than your average trip!
