Red Door resident dj Gary Kim spins all night at the Red Door on Xmas eve

Music. What would life be without it? It drives our intellect through our sense of sound and allows a dj or musician to incite: memory, forethought, movement and emotion... Since the age of 8, music has always had a profound influence on dj, Gary Kim. It all started with discovering jazz and classical trumpet, spending countless hours listening to pioneer and music legend, Miles Davis. It was during the time spent from elementary through high school where he developed a solid foundation in improvisation, music theory, and live performance. At the age of 18 he continued his music experience into Boston. Upon finishing college, he completed a Music Production and Sound Engineering program at Berklee College of Music while also being involved in an internship at Cybersound Studios where he learned the fundamentals of audio production.

In 2004, he immersed himself into the world of Boston nightlife and djing. After attending club nights for international acts such as Steve Lawler, Satoshi Tomiie, Ferry Corsten, Tiesto, Stacey Pullen, Danny Howells, DJ T., Sander Kleinenberg, and Lee Burridge he developed his palette for electronic music. He started performing a regular Friday night at Luigi & Roscoe's (now CAFETERIA) on Boston's Newbury Street, and eventually landed a big solo performance at Mansion (now the Estate), in the Theatre District. Other performing accolades include RISE, Sessions and Re:Set events at the Phoenix Landing, and opening acts for Joe Bermudez, the Night Riders, Repeat Offenders, Jevne Miller, Eric Sharp, Justin Sloe, and Pete Moss.

You can now find him holding a monthly residency at the Red Door run by friend and dj, Ryan Obermiller in Portsmouth, NH located just 45 minutes north of Boston (www.reddoorportsmouth.com) performing solo acts and under the dj moniker, the Orient Express, with longtime friend and fellow dj, John Arnold.

Gary continues to improve his skills and acquaint himself with many talented dj's that the world has to offer along with delivering the vibe to any music environment: clubs, private parties, and after-hours. Driven by nothing more than a passion and love for the music, follow this rising talent as he continues his journey.
