Robert James

Robert James is one of a new breed of British artists that are currently re-writing the rule book for underground house music worldwide. Based in the city of Leeds, the UK's second stronghold of underground house and techno outside of London, Rob first made a name for himself DJing around his hometown and in Ibiza.

His career exploded exponentially over last summer when his debut release ‘Sleep Moods’ was released on Jamie Jones and Lee Foss’ Hot Creations label. Since then he’s notched up a Mixmag ‘House Tune of the Month’ with Malibu (also on Hot Creations), which he co-wrote with fellow Yorkshireman Burnski, won support from across the dance music spectrum for his co-remix of Clockwork with Lee Foss and Art Department and caused much amusement (unless you’re Clive Henry) as a part of ‘Pteradactil Disco’.

His sound is completely unique, born from a strong sense of groove and from summers spent on the dance floor at DC10 in Ibiza plus a healthy ambition to turn house music on its head. He effortlessly creates music aimed squarely at the dance floor that is distinct, infectious and appeals as much to the head and the heart as it does the feet.

For the last two years Rob has been regular fixture at clubs like The Mint Club and My House in Leeds, the Zoo Project and Space in Ibiza and the Rainbow in Birmingham, but his recent successes in the studio have seen his bookings move into overdrive. Having landed bookings at fabric, Back To Basics, Bedrock, Asylum, Creche, You Are We and the Junk Club in the UK, his international gigs have started to overtake his domestic bookings. Most notable of these have been the Get Lost and Hot Natured parties in Miami, Rebel Raves in Lisbon and Sonar, Watergate in Berlin, Trouw in Amsterdam, the Hideout Festival in Croatia and Cirque de Bonheur in Paris. These parties and others have seen him play alongside the likes of Damian Lazarus, Carl Cox, Jamie Jones, Layo and Bushwacka, Art Department and most notably warming up for Pete Tong in front of ten thousand people in Sheffield broadcast live on Pete Tong’s Friday night show on Radio One.

The Godfather of UK dance music has in fact been so impressed by Rob’s approach to production that, in conjunction with Mixmag, Pete has named Rob as one of the top new producers to watch in 2011. This resulted in him being featured in Mixmag an unprecedented three months in a row. With a such a strong start to 2011, it will be interesting to see what the rest of the year holds in store for this hugely talented young artist.

Larse

A relative newcomer, having released a couple of lovely records on the Conya label, and another on Hertlich, Larse also hosts the friday night show on Germany‘s biggest youthradio „1Live Klubbing“ since more than 10 years. Now we proudly present the talented Dortmund based producer on We Love This.....‚I Got A Feeling‘ is a beautifully balanced, expertly produced cut that soars through the post-disco-nu-house skies like a flaming rocket bound for the dancefloor.

Low-slung, totally groovy and decidedly disco edged, a thick wall of classic drums, addictive vocals and top class studio finesse make this a superb new release for Larse.....Hamburg based Solomun adds his hand to the mix, with a wonderfully deep yet pumping remix of the original. Calling on some classic chicago vibes, with his trademark dry and crisp sound, they Diynamic boss doesnt dissapoint in this straight up late night roller.

Expect a heavy funk laden jam with euphoric vocals and a slice of modern electronic soul.

Glimpse

One of the most eagerly anticipated and prolific producers of the moment, Glimpse is a true innovator who is able to explore and master various genres in his own inimitable style. Few artists have managed to truly captivate diverse audiences in the way he has over the past few years. The London-based producer is blurring the distinctions of traditional genres, appealing to even the most obstinate listeners through his tireless dedication to continual reinvention. Having bubbled steadily through the ranks of the underground dance scene for the past few years, Glimpse has released records with Carl Craig’s Planet E, Cadenza, Coccoon, Crosstown Rebels, 2020 Vision, Kindisch and Buzzin Fly in 2009 alone and his outstanding debut artist album ‘Runner’ will be released on Damian Lazarus’ Crosstown Rebels in May 2010. His productions are a beguiling, heady mix of house music drawing on the true essence of its rudimentary influences to produce records of true magic.

Managing to weave elements of jazz and soul with house and techno to create something wholly innovative and mesmerizing, Glimpse has recently been identified by DJ Mag and Mixmag as one of the UK’s finest talents. Preferring more traditional production techniques, he uses only analogue equipment and records most of his tracks live, editing only afterwards, thus giving his music a more improvised quality. “I have always been drawn to the smokey lo-fi aesthetic of old recordings, warm and rhythmical but never abrasive or intrusive,” explains Glimpse, “As an artist it's very important to me to be as honest as possible when I produce, to show people my influences and portray exactly the way I feel about music, aiming to narrow the gulf between thought and expression.”

Glimpse’s sound is hugely influenced by his early obsessions with blues and jazz music, represented by the classic soulful spirit captured in his music. Concocted during his move from London to Berlin and back again, Glimpse’s debut studio album, ‘Runner’, also bookended the start of his own family.

Glimpse studied sculpture at Central Saint Martin’s art college until 2000, but with music in his heart, he made it his focus and has spent subsequent years fine-tuning his skills, experimenting under different aliases (Attic, Olek, and Spero), and creating his own Glimpse Recordings, with a policy to release solely his own output. He gained a loyal following in Japan early on, where they picked up on his intricate abilities, and Europe and America have begun to follow suit over the past few years, as the world now, quite rightly, directs him much more than a glimpse of its attention.
