Made up of Nick West and Michal Schwa, Shades of Gray is a DJ and production duo that formed in 2005 after Schwa moved from Prague to West’s hometown of Sydney. Soon after, they met and discovered they both shared a similar passion for electronic music. It wasn’t long after that Michal offered for Nick to join him as a partner on his newly formed label Beef Records.

Since then they’ve kept up a presence DJing around Australia, produced a string of EPs and managed their own label, Beef Records, through which they’ve just released Soul Machine. The album features 11 previously unreleased tracks from the duo, plus 11 more remixes of those tracks on a second disc. Artists tapped for reworks include The Timewriter, Lexy (of Lexy & K-Paul) and Jef K with Gwen Maze.
