LATTEX+ presents The Oliverwho Factory
THE OLIVERWHO FACTORY (Planet E / Madd Chaise)
The Detroit-based group The Oliverwho Factory (they go simply by the names Darryl and Shonie) is a bit of a mystery. With a scant 10 releases under their belt since they premiered on their own Madd Chaise Inc imprint in 2003, they have created a name for themselves that is rarely heard but when it is, it’s uttered in a reverent tone. Their sound is one that doesn’t fit easily into a box; its raw and electrifying blend of soulful house and jackin’ techno has likely made them hard to market out of the gate. Which was a problem for Darryl’s previous incarnation on a major label under the name Oliver Who?, a deal that only yielded one album that focused on a range of R&B styles. That experience may be why The Oliverwho Factory are reluctant to enter into the spotlight. Whatever the reason, it’s only a matter of time before the world realizes what they’ve been missing. After sticking to small quantities of vinyl through the years they’ve made the jump to digital distribution with What People Play and saw their gorgeous slice of strut-your-stuff house ‘Together’ featured in the mix on Tama Sumo’s Panorama Bar 02 mix CD.
Kerstin became one of the group’s biggest champions, leading to them performing live at the Panorama Bar and contributing a remix to the Tama Sumo and Prosumer collaboration, ‘Rarified’ on Ostgut Ton. 2010 saw a release on Carl Craig’s prestigious Planet E label, before the pair hooked up with Rush Hour for the excellent ‘Galactic Transit’ 12″ early in 2011. Later the same year, Lerosa’s ‘Amanatto’ album on Uzuri Recordings featured three tracks co-written and produced with the Oliverwho Factory, including vocal contributions from both Darryl and Shonie.
RUFUS (Bosconi rec )
Hi there! My name is Rufus
All my sets are focused on open minded positive music, funky vibes, downbeat, disco, deep and jackin house (even a bit of good detroit bassline techno).
In the past years and months I've been playing with artists such as Trus'me, Prins Thomas, Jesse Rose, Crowdpleaser, Kalabrese, Jackmate, Cassy, Shinedoe, Portable, Metro Area, Jamie Jones, Todd Terje, Argy, Serafin, Steve Kotey, Fabio della Torre, Fabrizio Mammarella, Minimono, Gummihz, Bruno Pronsato, Ekkohaus. I've been organizing events and playing for several clubs around my country, I had 2 years residence at legendary Exmud CLub in Florence first with the "Random" night and then with the very innovative club night called "4/4".
I played at Maria in Berlin, Zukunft in Zurich, and Corsica Studios, Multi Vitamins and Lather Rinse Repeat in London, where i lived for 2 years sharing great moments and the passion for music with amazing friends. I joined the electronic music tv-show "Extra" on All Music TV and I toured in Italy as an official Levi's dj in 2007 playing in superclubs alongside famous djs such as Ame and Locodice. At the moment I collaborate as a&r and producer for Bosconi Extra Virgin, fresh output of Bosconi Records that explores the more oldschool/funky and less-digital/glitchy sides of club music.
