After an extended break following a fantastic Christmas party, Secret Danger returns on Saturday March 10th with a headlining DJ set from Maria Minerva (Not Not Fun / 100% Silk)
<<< A MESSAGE FROM MARIA: “i cannot wait to move back to london, i have been missing the bass and the council tax. i wanna make the weak-limbed east-londoners dance, i will at least try my best. expect house, garage, disco and rnb and my fav genre - varia. wanna make new friends cos i still dont know that many people in london but u have to know that i dont take requests.” >>>
Noble Savage and Talinn At Dawn, Maria’s first two outings on Amanda Brown’s 100% Silk and Not Not Fun in early 2011, swayed groggily between swirling disco-not-disco and smacky karaoke jams. We, like many others, were enthralled. More recent releases have seen her flirting with classic house signifiers, but always keeping the kicks and claps cloaked behind yards of reverb and her own airy vocals.
If, on her own productions, these dance floor influences have always been filtered through a sonic mist of ideas, her mix for FACT last summer brought House music to the fore. With cuts from Chez Damier, Fonda Rae and Juan Atkins it also proved that she’s no genre-tourist.
After a short stint in Lisbon, where she DJed at the famous LUX Frágil, Maria is back in London to live and to play her first UK date of 2012 that isn’t the Royal Albert Hall.
Support on the evening comes from Alex Egan. If asked to name DJs with whom we share a certain affinity Alex's name would always crop up sooner or later. Alex has played around and beyond the UK including revered nights such as Optimo, Trash, and Bugged Out, and his considerable remix and production work will continue this year with a release as The Draughtsman on Tim Paris' Marketing Music label. His new venture, an AV label and event series titled Utter, issues its first release this summer, preceded by an inaugural party featuring Trevor Jackson and Raudive. As one half of Skull Juice (now defunct), and having had a hand in more excellent nights than we care to remember (see High Horse, Walk The Night and Bloggers Delight), he's informed our listening habits over the years and it's high time we invited him along to a Secret Danger.
The Secret Danger residents complete the bill and will round out the evening fleshing out a backbone of House, Techno and Disco with whatever sonic absurdities and oddities they see fit. The usual unusual.
Originally conceived as a monthly residents only party that sought to mix the weird with the wonderful and the good with the great, Secret Danger's third year of operations will stay true to that original spirit while inviting a select number of guests into the fold. Details of future parties to be announced soon. Watch this space.
