VINCE WATSON BIOGRAPHY:
From the age of 7, Vince Watson was heading towards his ambition of making Electronic Music. Thru Early Pioneers like Jean Michel Jarre and Herbie Hancock to Genres like Hiphop and House, there was always a passion and a direction towards Detroit Techno and the Scene around it. Graduating in 1993 in Music Technology gave Vince the platform to develop his sound and it wasn’t long until the demo’s were sent out. Dave Angel’s Rotation label being the first to receive one, and in accepting gave Vince his first contract and release. A residency in Glasgow’s Arena nightclub was the start of his experience on the scene and played alongside Jeff Mills, Luke Slater, Kenny Larkin and Mixx Djax to name buy a few. With his love of both House and Techno, it was always a challenge to marry the 2 styles, but Alola Records gave him the chance to do so and in 1999 Vince released his first album ‘Biologique’. The modern classic ‘Mystical Rhythm’ was the standout track and even to this day is being played and licensed by the best artists in the business including Francois Kevorkian and Joe Claussell. His second album on Alola ‘Moments in Time’ was also released on Legendary New York House Label Ibadan, Vince set up his own label Bio Music in 2000 and so far has featured Artists such as Steve Rachmad, Joris Voorn, Deetron and Ben Sims. The label has been licensed to compilations from Carl Cox, Laurent Garnier, Brandon Block, Danny Howells amongst others…and Vince has remixed artists such as Turner, The Black Dog, Electric Rescue,Taho and Orlando Voorn.
As an attempt to breath new life into Electronica, Vince embarked on a series of releases inspired by the sounds of Black Dog and Germany’s Basic Channel. ‘Sublimina’ on Glasgow label Headspace was Vince’s 3rd Full length album and was his most accomplished to date gaining huge respect across all divides of the electronic movement, the prelude to which, ‘Lost Episodes EP’ has already been spun heavily by Dave Clarke and Derrick May. An EP for Ben Sims ‘Native’ imprint called ‘Fragments’ also experimented with this universally revered sound, while a remix for The Black Dog itself has been gaining huge support since its release in Jan 2005. 2004 was also a hugely successful year for his career as an F-Com artist. The 1st release called ‘Pure Innersense’ has been a massive selling release and has gained many licenses already. The 2nd release was launched in August 2005. A 3rd release will be completed in spring of 2007. Vince recorded a double EP release for the legendary Detroit techno label Transmat, and was due for release now in 2004. but sadly this was never released and ‘The eMotion Sequence’ was released via legendary amsterdam label, Delsin records in late 2006 preceeded by a sampler 12” to massive acclaim by media and his contemporaries worldwide. The CD version of the album was notably huge in Japan, and a single from the album will be remixed late 2007 by none other than Laurent Garnier.
Vince also released his debut single on Planet E ‘Renaissance EP’ last year to massive acclaim, securing his place in the top echelon of the most innovative and exciting techno acts on the planet. Carl Craig has been spinning it heavily in most of his sets worldwide, Radio Slave licensed it as the closing track for his recent 'Mich Mach' compilation, and the feedback has been overwhelming. Vince has also been invited to record for Underground Resistance label Submerge Recordings. Hardly any artists outside Detroit have been able to do so so it is a great honour for Vince and testament to Vince’s mission of quality electronic music. This will coincide with a 2nd release on Planet E. Expecting a release for both of these in Spring / Summer 2007.
A Jazz Inspired Album for Laurent Garnier’s Fcom label will also be produced in 2007 for an early 2008 release, after much delay. Originally expected in 2006, Vince is taking great lengths to make sure the project is a major success and a lot of work is going into it. A remix for Turner on Kompakt’s new sub label Orphanear will be out in the spring of 2007 and a single for Germany’s Plastic City will also be produced later in 07.
