Niche Productions’ Hold Tight! Has cemented itself as the premier Dubstep & Future Beats night in Sydney however, its status keeps on growing with a festival-sized bill just announced featuring Jaques Greene (Canada), Africa Hitech, Machinedrum (UK), Dibiase (USA), Albatross (live), and a host of quality DJs in support this April at Oxford Art Factory.
Montreal producer Jaques Greene has made a sizeable footprint equivalent to a saskwatch in snow across dance music’s plane these past eighteen months, with highlights including his sophomore single Another Girl (Lucky Me) along with a contribution to Radiohead’s TKOL RMX1 collection.
He has just his completed his first release Concealer on his own label Vase and yes, that is him in the Azaelia Banks video for 212.
April’s Hold Tight! also sees the return of favourites Africa Hitech off the back of their massive North American tour. Returning with ‘nuff ferocity earlier this year at the Flying Lotus & Martyn show, they suitably tore it down, firmly cementing themselves as the right and proper ambassadors to induct Footwork and all future strains of Bass music in to this country.
Machinedrum, one half of future garage supergroup Sepalcure, will also be making his debut Australian tour this April. After a slew of releases under various alliases from as far back as 99’ (including his debut album Now You Know) Machinedrum is arguably Travis Stewart’s most successful. His acclaimed releases Want To 1 2 and his newest Room(s) on Planet Mu released last year was hailed as a modern classic by Resident Advisor.
Los Angeles based producer Diabiase rounds out the international lineup and also marks his debut Australian tour. Dibiase grew up in South Los Angeles neigbourhood Watts notorious for its race riots and inner city strife. However, he turned away from his gang-infested surroundings and resigned to his garage, where he found solace in video games and music production, releasing on labels like Alpha Pup and Fat City. “Dibiase [has] devised his own dynamite comprised of J Dilla descended moonlit soul, G-funk's south L.A. swing, and the dusty cartridge and epileptic flashes of 8- bit Nintendo music.” (Los Angeles Times Entertainment)
Albatross heads up with the local lineup with their new live incarnation taking to the Hold Tight! stage for the first time after releasing their triumphant 7” single Murder/Casper’s Theme (complete with Dro Carey and Guerre remixes).
This April’s Hold Tight is sure to be another sell-out with its massive international lineup of electronic superstars with both some eagerly awaited debut appearances, some trusted regulars and of course a nod to who we can look to in the future for those cutting edge beats.
