Burtfest was started in 2011 on the Burton Rugby Ground , the brain child of local music venue owner Ben Brettell and local events organiser and friend Nolan Salmon, the idea behind the festival was to run the biggest live music event Burton Up On Trent had ever seen whilst also putting something back into the community.
Burtfest 2011 took place in June 2011 and was a great success with an army of local midlands bands playing as well as well established tribute bands and an outside bar and fair.
The ticket price was kept cheap and the festival got in sponsers to help pay for the running of the festival meaning in the first year the festival raised more than £500 for local charities and saw over 1500 people attend over the 2 days.
After the success of Burtfest 2011 Ben asked Gaz Peacham (his business partner and manager of his Nottingham based music venue, The Maze) to get involved and between himself, Nolan and Gaz, they looked to evolve the festival for 2012.
Burtfest 2012 is now being held at a new site on the washlands area of Burton at the Sports Centre and will this year have camping over 3 days of the 15th, 16th and 17th of June. The festival has more local and national companies sponsoring it and is working with more fairs, stalls and entertainers to make sure this year is not only even bigger and better than last year but also raises even more money for local charities and people in need.
With the confirmation of bands such as Ska legends The Selecter and the wonderful The Wurzels and with a host of the best up and coming talent from both the Burton area and further a field and with acts still being confirmed, Burtfest 2012 promises to set a new standard for years to come!
