Moody Disco Bank Holiday Special with Maceo Plex & Droog photo gallery
Moody Disco are please to announce we'll be throwing a 1 off bank holiday special on Sunday 6th of May at The Haunt, Brighton, and boy have we have got one hell of a lineup to go with it.
Maceo Plex (aka Maetrik) is an artis we've had our eye on for a very long time. He seems to be on a quest to fullfil his need to inject feeling and funk into the world and he's proving to be quite productive. His discography is like who's who of electronic music having worked with pretty much every big name there is.
After many years of prolific works as Maetrik on labels such as Dumb Unit, Cocoon, Audiomatique, Modern Love & Mothership (to name a few), Maetrik travelled the world playing in some of the greatest clubs such as Rex, Cocoon, Fabric, Womb, etc... But in 2010 Maetrik began to strip back some of his robotic body armour in order to expose a more musical and groove based side the world had not yet seen and Maceo Plex was born.
After Maceo Plex's debut album "Life Index" emerged on Crosstown Rebels back in January 2011, we've been hit with deep and funky works of audible engineering one after another, for labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Hot Creations, Visionquest, No.19 & his own imprint Ellum Audio. He's received remixes from the likes of Nicolas Jaar, Wolf + Lamb's Zev, Maya Jane Coles & Tale Of Us and has also offered remixes of his own to Laura Jones, DJ T. & Azari & III (to name a few) on Get Physical & Leftroom.
The guy is literrally unstoppable at the moment and with such an impressive year in 2011, its no wonder we saw him sitting pretty at No.5 in the 2011 RA Top 100 DJ's Poll as the highest ranking debut ever, with only Ricardo Villalobos, Richie Hawtin, Seth Troxler & previous Moody Disco guest Jamie Jones placed above him. He certainly got our vote!
In a nutshell, a night with Maceo Plex will be one of monumental proportions, he's now one of the most in demand artists in the world and after a year of trying to lock this one down, we feel privileged to finally be able to present him to the Brighton faithful.
From the start 5 years ago, Droog has steadily built a reputation as one of the leading purveyors of forward‐thinking dance music, in Los Angeles and beyond. Known for their respected parties on the Standard Rooftop, that through the years featured leading international house and techno talent, from Magda, Jamie Jones, Lee Foss, MANIK, Steve Bug & Martin Buttrich to Dixon, Lee Curtiss, Ryan Crosson, Shaun Reeves, Seth Troxler, Nicolas Jaar, Dyed Soundorom, Shonky and many many more.
Droog have masterminded showcase parties at the Miami Winter Music Conference, Detroit Electronic Music Festival & the BPM festival in Mexico. Droog has held down a residency at Avalon Hollywood, one of the biggest clubs in the US, for the last 4 years playing alongside influences such as Richie Hawtin, Lee Burridge, Steve Lawler, Damian Lazarus, Tiefschwarz, Mr. C, Booka Shade, MANDY & Matthew Dear.
In 2009 Droog made a leap into a new territory by launching an LA-based record label, Culprit, which has now turned into one of the biggest labels in electronic music and a personal favourite of Moody Disco. The labels 1st release back in 2009 titled "h.e.d.s. EP" was also the debut release for Jamie Jones & Lee Foss as "Hot Natured". Since then, they've spoilt us with an array of successful releases from the likes of Matt Tolfrey, Inxec, Lee Foss, SECT (Soul Clap, Tanner Ross & Sergio Santos), Subb-an, M A N I K, Gavin Herlihy, Lee Curtiss & Shonky to name a few.
2011 saw the Los Angeles collective spending a lot more time in the studio and as a result, we've seen some very impressive productions on labels such Crosstown Rebels, Supernature, Culprit, NOICE, Murmur, My Favorite Robot and Adjunct Audio with loads of other high profile projects include mixing the second instalment of the Rebel Rave mix CD for Crosstown Rebels, which came out in November.
Droog are most certainly up there with best of them right now and again, it bring us great pleasure be able to bring this act to Brighton all the way from L.A. to play a very rare UK gig for the Moody Disco Bank Holiday Special.
Joining Maceo Plex & Droog on the lineup will be our Moody Disco residents, Marlon Mahroyan, Chemical Play & Loren Heer. All 3 seem to be leading the way in the thriving Brighton underground party scene right now, with countless gigs under their belts with some of the biggest artists in the world including Lee Foss, Matt Tolfrey, Geddes, Subb-An, Robert James, Clockwork, Lee Curtiss, Jamie Jones, Art Departmentand & plenty more in the pipeline. These boys have proven that they're capable of mixing it with the best of them and are the perfect addition to this already killer lineup!
