GINGY & BORDELLO (Turbo Recordings)
A true product of Toronto's thrillingly cosmopolitan Grooving Pot, this Chinese-Italian duo offers much more than a staggering blow to the face of casual racism. Bordello served as Turbo's intern in Montreal for a year, managing such vital tasks such as buying Tiga's bagels, toasting Tiga's bagels, and offering a youthful take on bagels to a bunch of jaded crabs. Gingy, by all accounts, is a really nice guy.
They initially caught the attention of racists and non-racists alike with their first EP, 'Vaporizer', on This Is Music, before catching the ear of some big names with 'Body Acid', forcing Turbo’s A&R Vibetrust to pay their respects to the kid with a foot in the door and a finger on the Ontarian Pulse. The label made moves by signing Body Acid, released in Fall 2011, which featured two stellar remixes by the almighty KiNK. The release clocked high on the hype radar with support from industry big-shots such as Soulwax and Martyn. At the time, Erol Alkan described Body Acid as being "the best club record out there".
With this taste of success, Bordello decided to move back to Toronto to focus on more production work with Gingy. 2012 has proven to be a breakthrough year for the hotly tipped Sino-Italian duo, with remixes on Turbo, Fool's Gold, and Throne of Blood. They made their maiden voyage to Europe last Fall to play at London’s Fabric and Paris’ Social Club alongside Turbo stars Azari & III, Brodinski, and Gesaffelstein. They are set to release another record on Turbo due out this Spring.
