This week Escape sees the return of two of the biggest names in dance music today; Judge Jules and Paul Woodford.
Since its birth in July 1995, Escape has obliterated the competition and established itself as Wales' number one dance venue. Within 6 months of opening, Escape was awarded the title of Wales' only super club by the national dance press. The venue itself has five bars, four rooms, two floors and three dance floor areas. The success of the club is attributed to the musical diversity on offer, with three room's home to different musical genres. Room 1 rotates progressive house, trance and hard dance on rotation, Room 2 host's funky US house and electronic house with Room 3 delivering the very best in vocal UK garage and R & B. Room 4 serves as a true time out bar with comfortable seating, low-level lighting and DJ's playing chill-out sets, minimal techno or house. Continuously, the Escape team keep up the pressure to ensure their place at the top by providing their audience with the world's top DJ's showcasing at the venue on a regular basis.
Jules studied law at the London School of Economics, giving rise to his stage name "Judge Jules", and began his DJ career on pirate radio station "Kiss FM". He was evenually given a regular Saturday night slot on Radio 1 playing his own brand of contemporary dance music, which he has now held for 10 years. It's extremely popular with clubbers and people preparing to go out on Saturday night helping it become one of the most listened to dance radio shows in the UK and also attracts listeners from around the world due to Radio 1's online internet connections and the satellite radio networks out in America and Canada. Through the radio show he is responsible for launching many huge trance tunes and acts in the UK. Judge Jules has a regular club night in Ibiza which is widely established as one of the busiest nights on the island. Throughout his career he has won a number of awards within the music industry, further cementing his position in the history of dance music. His approach and style of spinning tunes means that he is in demand from all over the globe; His deck dexterity is consistently in demand in Western and Eastern Europe (incl. Czech Rep., Russia, Romania, Hungary, Spain and Germany), the US, the southern hemisphere (Brazil, Argentina, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore and India) and on the African continent (The Pyramids, Egypt) and also U.A.E. Jules embraces dance music across the spectrum and you're just as likely to find him spinning trance to 10,000 at a festival such as Creamfields, as playing a rocking house set in a 500-capacity venue.
Paul Woolford has established himself as one of the most creative and original DJ and producer that house music has uncovered over the years. Early on he decided that he wanted to get involved in the production of the tracks that he was listening to, and sees himself as very much 50% DJ/50% producer. His initial releases were clever fusions of house, hip-hop and electronica, leading him to the "Bobby Peru" project. The album "Death of a Player" was met with widespread acclaim throughout the music industry; the success of this album allowing him to select names such as 2020 Vision, Underworld and Subliminal for his singles which further increased the respect from other top names in dance music. Paul's style takes in the abstract approach of layering tracks in key, creating a third sound which is then blended with the more straight forward set approach. Paul's productions are in a league of their own with many releases on the world's finest labels and while staying dedicated to the production front Paul has also built up his global dj bookings and clocked up the air miles taking his unique style of djing across the world from Chicago to Singapore. His long awaited second Bobby Peru album is about to drop, again taking an individual approach by working with his jazz musician father. This is going to be released on Pauls new label Intimacy and will collaborate around 5 or 6 genres of music, creating an innovative and exciting club sound.
