Red Underground, Your Only Friend
Red Underground is proud to present: Your Only Friend Recordings Label Party featuring their premier artist,
"The First Lady of Beatdown" - LADY BLACKTRONIKA!!!
Since her first full length album on Your Only Friend, reviewers and DJs have been calling her the next Moodymann or the next Theo Parrish. We disagree. She’s not the next anything… but rather the First Lady of Beatdown.
Lady Blacktronika has been featured various times by Resident Advisor and has been called one of Deep House's most talented newcomers. http://www.residentadvisor.net/feature.aspx?1167 This statement is no exaggeration and she has been brought over from California to play at some of Europe's best nightclubs including Berlin's Panorama Bar. We were there to check her out and were absolutely blown away with her amazing choice of music, including many of her own unreleased productions. She also is not shy to the microphone. In true old-school Detroit fashion she spontaneously jumps on the mic and belts out the vocals to her tracks as if it were no big deal. Absolutely amazing.
Ok.. I can go on for days, but the best thing to do would be to come down and check this rare opportunity to see one of House Musics truly great artist perform in an intimate club with a world-class sound system!!
Feel free to check out some of her tracks at www.youronlyfriend.me
Of course... She will be accompanied by Your Only Friend Recordings label owner TRES MANOS.
In 1997 she hooked up with dj friend Mattski who gave her first taste of music production doing vocals on numerous unreleased house tracks with him. Frustrated with "the boys not letting [her] play with their toys" she began trying her hand at house music and techno production in 2006, producing Beatdown tracks inspired by such Detroit greats as Theo Parrish, Moodymann, and Norma Jean Bell.
In early '07 Mike Huckaby discovered her on Myspace. He introduced her to a global audience on a Detroit radio broadcast. She released her first single shortly there after on Deep Explorer in September of '07 and was subsequently signed to Your Only Friend Recordings where she made her mark and got the title "The First Lady of Beatdown". In 2010 she release her well acclaimed first full length album, Future Blues vol.1.
She infuses experiences from her past in gritty street life while bringing a woman's sensitivity and emotion to the Beatdown genre and Chicago influenced House music.
