Gibb Street Warehouse Presents...Laurent Garnier L.B.S. (Live Booth Session)
On Friday June 1st, kick-starting Jubilee weekend, we welcome DJ royalty through our doors for the very first time, a man who has been in the business for over 25 years. It’s a true pioneer who is renowned for his detectable DJing style that constantly infuses an array of sounds and genres beyond the usual restrictions. Someone who can boast more than simply spinning records, he is a multi-accomplished musician whose skills include radio broadcasting, film scoring, and the addition to his array of talents, a new concept of live performance which we welcome to the club. Gibb St is excited to announce Laurent Garnier and his L.B.S live show.
The LBS concept – Live Booth Sessions or Loud Bass & Samples - is a live show consisting of three people, Garnier joined by Benjamin Rippert and Scan X to create a live performance comparable to no other. Blending house, techno, jazz and dubstep with additional instrumentation and audio sampling input, the idea is to enhance the atmosphere and overall connection between the crowd and DJ, transforming the energy into something spectacular where the boundaries between playing records and creating them are indelibly blurred.
Joining him will be another legend, Surgeon. Ask any dance music fan who the defining voices of British techno have been in the past fifteen years and the ones who really know their stuff will point you in this man’s direction. Resplendent of everything that is good about the genre, capable of being hard and brutal or warm and funky, cold and clinical or raiding a rich tapestry of outside influences. He’s worked alongside Regis at British Murder Boys and released a slew of beats on the most pivotal labels the genre has seen (think Tresor, Warp and Counterbalance). He’s also been a fervent fixture on the history of Birmingham’s techno scene, cutting his teeth at early 90s techno institution House of God as well as revered party Atomic Jam.
Tom Flynn will also star, the Birmingham born and bred titan making his maiden performance as the new monthly resident of Gibb St Warehouse. His productions have caused quite the stir on labels like Dirtybird and Strictly Rhythm over the past few years with a flurry of famous fans such as Carl Cox and Pete Tong. The latter has been vociferous in his approval, inviting him into the studio for collaboration and earmarking him as one of his ‘ones to watch’ in 2012. Praise is scant higher. The combined talents of Bunka, AUM and Resonance will host Room 2.
