incl. presents: Dance 4 a Cure... Beat ALS
June 1, 2012 at The Gallery at LPR
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease yet it still costs loved ones an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference and come out on June 1st ready to DANCE, DRINK and DONATE!
We are happy to announce that all proceeds from this event will go to the Forbes Norris MDA/ALS Research & Treatment Center at CPMC in San Francisco in honor of Joyce Rusinak (who has been battling this disease for over 3 years) as well as all others who have been affected by this horrible disease. The Forbes Norris MDA/ALS Research and Treatment Center carries on the legacy of an internationally renowned physician, Dr. Forbes (Ted) Norris, in the field of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) research and clinical care. It is the largest ALS clinical research center in the United States and is one of six national Muscular Dystrophy Association ALS Centers dedicated to ALS treatment and muscular dystrophy treatment. Additional information about the Forbes Norris Center can be found at http://www.cpmc.org/services/als/about/default.html
