The Act Now show has been the home for the campaign against music prejudice and genre frigidity since 2007. Presented by Airplays and broadcast on Brap.FM the show has taken in all the best aspects of Nu & Oldskool Dance, Ambient, Soul, Electronic, Dub, Experimental and a smidgen of Rock & Roll.
Airplays has always involved friends and acquaintances; featuring guest mixes and showcasing up-and-coming artists. Now at The Bloomsbury Lanes he’ll be bringing those friends along for a Multi-Genre-Disco-Party.
DJs on the night:
Ursa – (House/Techno/Electronica/Jungle) http://soundcloud.com/ursa
Ursa is a fellow Brap.FM DJ and presents The Centrifuge radio show every other Thursday 10pm-12am. He showcases all the best in Experimental Electronica, along with a healthy dose of cutting edge Bass Music. He’ll be closing the party so keep your dancing shoes on for some Jungle!
Innu – (Bass Music) www.facebook.com/UnconsciousLdn
Innu has rocked plenty of disused carpet factories as part of London’s hottest free party collective, Unconscious. He’s played alongside the likes of Mistabishi and Grimez but we’ll be bringing him down to Bloomsbury for a slightly more legitimate affair. You can still expect forward thinking bass heavy music though.
John Dory – (House/Disco) http://www.facebook.com/sergparty
Along with Airplays, John Dory is one half of new club night Serg. A night dedicated to good times party music and the best of Block-Rockin-Beats; whether that’s House, Techno, Breaks, Acid, Bass… whatever. You can more than likely expect to hear him playing the best French Electro, Driving House & the odd Party Classic.
Kookenhaken – (Disco – Dirge – Psych – Pop)
Bassist, record collector and sometimes DJ, Kookenhaken is not the kind of person to disappoint when it comes to playing what you might not have expected. A true warrior against the forces of banality; he’s certainly not frigid.
Airplays – (Hip Hop/Beats) www.airplaysemporium.co.uk | www.thediggersltd.co.uk |
As you already know Airplays is the host of the Act Now show. He’s been playing records since the days of mixtapes on cassette and found his love of the dance listening to jungle tapes and zooming around roller discos to the sounds of The Prodigy and 808 State. He’s played alongside the likes of Bonobo, A Skills, Cut La Roc, Klashnekoff & Peo De Pitte and is a resident DJ at Concrete Bar at The Hayward Gallery. He’ll be playing a 45min wonky Hip Hop set to start the night.
