▉ ROBERT OWENS ▉
Regarded by many as ‘The Voice of House music’, Robert Owens has become one of the figures most associated with the late-'80s golden era of Chicago house. Robert grew up singing in a church, but it was whilst working as a DJ in 1985 that he met pioneering Chicago producer Larry Heard and the pair formed Fingers Inc. There are very few names with as long a list of classic tracks under their belt; from 'Bring Down The Walls' to 'Tears', to 'I'll Be Your Friend' to 'It's Over'. This is a rare opportunity to catch a Chicago legend in such an intimate setting, playing classic Chicago House and the tracks that make him jack.
▉ ANDY BLAKE (World Unknown / Dissident Records) ▉
If comparisons were very much your thing, Andy Blake could be comfortably filed next to Andrew Weatherall and Ivan Smagghe for he also shares the descriptor of being a ‘DJ’s DJ’. But perhaps the most important thing about Andy Blake is that he has the kind of knowledge that deserves a special place in today’s music world. He’s someone who offers a hindsight that can contextualize today’s music, and combined with his love for the analogue sound, we can get somewhere close to defining the aesthetic of Blake’s sonic signature.
