Matt Tolfrey // http://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/matttolfrey
In a current musical climate where originality can often be overtaken by the mundane and regular, Matt Tolfrey’s tireless devotion and relentless energy have taken him to a point where he is beginning to shape the musical world around him.
Labels of the calibre of the legendary Classic Records and 1Trax now approach him to launch their compilation series, and through his own family of labels – Leftroom and its sister imprints Leftroom Ltd and Left’d, plus the edits label Foot and Mouth – he launches his own productions and musical tastes upon the scene. Matt’s inherent instinct for future classics have seen seasoned names such as Jamie Jones, Glimpse and Lee Curtiss all grace the label’s back catalogue. As the Leftroom stable hits maturity after 5 years, it is also now responsible for developing the likes of Laura Jones and Waifs & Strays and, in doing so, helping to launch the careers of tomorrow’s hot new house generation.
Sam Russo // http://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/samrusso
Sam Russo’s hunger to spread his ideas globally is driven by an open minded approach to the floor. Sam’s take on electronic music is rooted in the smooth rhythms of US house and garage, tempered by the expansive deepness of Basic Channel and Maurizio. He is currently expressing these ideas through his own solo productions and a prolific series of studio partnerships.
Starting off at the age of 18 in London’s east end, Sam cut his teeth on the Shoreditch circuit, with gigs at spots like Cargo, Herbal. After a move to Southampton he became resident at the city’s notorious Junk Club. Here he gained the invaluable experience of setting the atmosphere at heavyweight parties like Cocoon and Circo Loco.
A laid back character, Russo is equally at home in the tranquil surrounds of Bournemouth or in the hustle of London. At both of these bases he has forged strong relationships with a pair of the UK’s current hot properties. On the south coast with Tsuba artist Huxley and in the capital Leftroom boss Matt Tolfrey.
Romulus Schwarz// http://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/romulusschwarz
Amongst the constant 'noise' of the electronic music industry there are a few characters that often find themselves hidden away, working tirelessly at project after project, forcing their place within this turbulant world. Producer and DJ Romulus Schwarz, is one of them. Father to small family of labels, Shrink Records & SheWolf Music and co-founder / promoter / resident DJ of Nottingham's newest underground venue 'Wherehouse?' he never stops thinking of new ways to showcase what he loves and present his creative visions upon us all.
Years as an studio engineer and musical experimentalist allow Romulus to utilise an arsenal of interesting and sometimes unique techniques. When approaching a new track, all be it the music he often writes has an obvious place on the dance floor, the mechanics and inner workings of his music are painstackingly crafted, with dynamic texture and warmth, keeping the track constantly interesting, and yet with a solid groove attached.
We're truly honoured to have this master of the Nottingham underground join us to warm up the wherehouse for this Bank Holiday event. If you've been following the Nottingham House Music scene for as long as we have then odds are you'll have heard him play somewhere. We salute you Mark, can't wait to hear the musical gems you'll be treating us to!!
