Breakin Bread are settling into the Blues Kitchen nicely, they've been there for over a year now and every night has been pure quality with the crowd begging for more and more after every event.
After 14 years the BB crew know how to run things tightly. Resident Skeg and his guests warm things up nicely, teasing the crowd with a flavour of whats to come later on in the night before moving into double copies of drum heavy, breakbeat tracks that lure the b-boys into a circle on the floor. The crowd are always ratcheted up a notch when the band takes the stage. We choose only the finest soul/funk bands around (they're aren't many top notch bands in the new funk scene) and they normally have the crowd in the palm of their hands before the DJ's take over to rock the decks and dancefloor till 3am.
This month the Manfredi Funk Initiative are coming over from Bristol to bring their stripped down version of the modern funk sound. These guys consist of a couple of members of Breakin Bread's own band Edenheight (http://www.breakinbread.org/profile_edenheight.htm) alongside a couple of stalwarts of the Bristol live music scene. Expect some heavy breaks from this poweful four piece!
On the decks one of the worlds finest drummers shows off his record collection. Malcolm Catto has played for all the best modern funk bands (QSO, Combo Barbaro, The Heliocentrics, Soul Destroyers and more) and he's been digging alongside the likes of Jazzman Gerald and Keb Darge for years so he's got a few goodies!
As ever Skeg and Kope will be hosting the night and keeping the crowd hype!
Get down there early for some tasty Burgers, Steaks and Ribs before the show starts
