In 1993, Brett moved to New York to explore his evolving musical explorations. Shortly there after in 95 Brett started Trackmode Recordings with its first release The Underground Experience. Trackmode allowed Brett to control all artistic aspects of his and other deep house soldiers artistic direction. Trackmode with its evolving releases has been on the forefront of the deep house community. Featuring Releases from Such Artists as Jordan Fields, Larry Heard, Chris Gray , & Shake. Trackmode is a label that is respected by the only the deepest DJ. Brett when not in the Studio is Djing in as far away places as Brazil and Germany. He is a multi-talented DJ and Producer.
Born in New York, Kai Yuri Alce spent his early years on the island of St. Croix amidst the sounds of the Caribbean. His parents moved back to NY just in time for young Kai to experience the birth of hip-hop, a movement he associates with the beginning of his relationship with music independent of that of his parents. After moving to Detroit in 1980 Kai began listening to ‘Electrifying Mojo’, as well as The Wizard AKA Jeff Mills. When the ‘Music Institute’ opened in Detroit in 1987, it quickly became the city’s premier underground dance music location. Kai began working there at the age of 16 and subsequently witnessed the evolution of house alongside it’s most formidable DJ’s: Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson, D. Wynn, Alton Miller, and kin Chez Damier. Among the benefits of working at the club was Kai’s easy access to the studios as they created such hits as Innercity’s ‘Goodlife’ and Rhythim is Rhythim’s ‘It is what it is’. Surround by such mastery one can’t help but be inspired.
In 2002, Kai Alce’s journey as a recording artist began with his first commercial release on the seminal label Track Mode. The Kaizer EP was warmly received by worldwide audiences. Since then, Kai has released music on Detroit staple labels Mahogani Music (Moodyman’s label), FXHE (Omar S) & Real Soon (UK) and Deep Explorer Recordings.
In 2008, Alce’s own imprint, N.D.ATL Muzik, was born. N.D.ATL is an acronym for New York, Detroit and Atlanta, the three places that have cultivated the sounds and tones of the label’s releases. N.D.ATL Muzik projects include The Floating EP, which received critical acclaim from DJs around the world. The second single, Power Through Part 3, the vocal continuation of Power Thru Pt 1 which was originally released on his first EP. Finding its release in 2008, the single was charted by various DJs around the world, included on Steve Bug’s compilation for NRK and Cassy’s In The Mix compilation for Cocoon Recordings. N.D.ATL Muzik also started a three-part 12” series in tribute to the legendary Music Institute, in which he calls on all of his mentors and peers from Detroit who were part of the Music Institute scene. Projects with collaborators such as Jovonn, Alton Miller, Chez Damier, Phil Asher, Roland Clark, Azulu Phantom, Omar S have also proven Kai’s vast textures & sounds. So plan on future N.D.ATL Muzik releases to leave their indelible mark on this thing we call house.
So join us for night surely not to be missed!
