Goethe’s classic tragedy Faust for the pop music generation
With a thumping soundtrack of pop music and a range of hand puppets, celebrated Berlin performance artist Bridge Markland is back at the English Theatre. She presents her high energy retelling of Goethe’s classic tragedy, Faust after 2 successful US and a Canada Tour within the last year. Hilarious and grotesque, the play is performed with intense physicality, Markland quick changing roles between Mephisto, Faust and Gretchen lip-syncing to a sound collage featuring Goethe’s text and the lyrics of Madonna, Robbie Williams, The Rolling Stones and many other music artists. faust in the box is the most successful in a series of works by the artist recreating classic German theatre texts from the confines of a cardboard box.
Directed by Bridge Markland / Heike Gäßler
