Uber Bank Holiday Outdoor Special // Sunday 26th August @ Merienda Treasury Court

It’s back. Uber returns in stunning style for its annual August Bank Holiday fun with a brand new type of venue and a line-up rammed to the rafters with favourites old and new. They will be taking over Treasury Court in the centre of Carlisle for a Terrace style event, a venue which has never been utilised in this manner before for an intimate capacity day and night of sun kissed grooves and hedonistic allure. Uber will be joined by local house heads Palooza, whose previous guests include Silicone Soul, Hot Creations’ Denny and Nickelle and are a collective capable of delivering sure-fire grooves all night long, something they will be doing in the bar for the entire event.

And what about the line-up? There’s the permeable influence from Chicago, the city where Uber and Carlisle has always had an unlikely spiritual connection, not to mention their kindred spirit with another Northern English city where house music has a rich heritage. All in all it will deliver at a simply stunning showcase which once again proves England’s most Northerly city packs just as big a punch as its southern neighbours.

Headlining is the incredible Derrick Carter. What else is there left to say about the king of the boompty boomp? When dance music entered its second stage Derrick was leading from the front in Chi-Town, making acid flecked music that looked back beyond the genre’s roots to funk and early disco. His beats jacked, his grooves popped and above all his DJ sets delivered. Derrick transforms records, tearing funk out of rhythm and lifting beats to beyond their mere mortal existence. There will also be another very special guest joining proceedings - rather likely to share more than a love of house music with Derrick – that will be announced closer to the time.

Next up is Alex Metric, whose latest album Ammunition has delivered a bevy of dancefloor slayers ‘Rave Weapon,’ ‘Epichords’ and ‘Anybody Else.’ His flair for the remix has developed into a serious talent in re-imagining vocal tracks, a case in point being the stunning transformation of Dave Gahan’s iconic words on Depeche Mode’s classic ‘Personal Jesus’. His brand of scattershot electro and funk charged techno will be perfect for Carlisle to bring in the bank holiday fun.

Uber also sees a return from one of its old favourites in Yousef, a DJ who will be playing two special day and night sets. 2012 is shaping up to be a very special year for Yousef, with his sophomore album ‘A product of Your Environment’ set to drop side by side with Circus, the clubnight he has built to become one of the biggest in Europe, set to celebrate a decade of activity in September. The two sets will offer a snapshot into every facet of his musical personality.

Next up is another Uber debut, Tim Green. Tim Green has become one of the starlets of the modern house and techno environment, possessing an idiosyncratic groove and an off kilter cheekiness which has peppered his sound beyond the usual house hallmarks and allowed his beats to parlay on Get Physical and Cocoon records. The Warehouse Project’s Krysko, one of the most versatile and deftly endearing DJs on the UK house scene, returns as do Uber stalwarts We Take Polaroid’s and Ki Creighton, the former playing live. Local boy done good Junior G, fresh from ensnaring a residency at Ministry of Sound, tops a list of residents and friends who will round off the talent on board.
