The first in this two part event series of late night, electronic music events takes place on Saturday 25th August and features both Melbourne talent as well as two Japanese acts; DJ Kazu Kimura and live experimental artist Aoki Takamasa. The Japanese flavour of the event has been specially programmed to compliment both the Sayonara and Kaeru Japanese arts projects taking place at Arts Centre Melbourne.

AOKI TAKAMASA [ RASTER-NOTON / OP.DISC ] OSAKA, JAPAN

Heading to Australia for the first time is live electronic experimental artist Aoki Takamasa from Osaka, Japan. His past productions could be filed under experimental, ambient, electronica and IDM. Having undertaken collaborations with prolific Japanese artists such as Ryoichi Kurokawa, Fumiya Tanaka and Tujiko Noriko, and releases on Alva Noton's Raster Noton imprint, Takamasa’s sound has been described as Boards of Canada meets Autechre and is sure to impress with a stunning visual media show.

KAZU KiMURA (NAGANO, JAPAN)

Originally from Nagano Japan, Kazu Kimura is known for launching some of the earliest dance parties in Tokyo in the early 90’s. He moved to Australia in 94' where he was received with open arms wowing local crowds and became widely acclaimed as one of the most popular techno DJ’s on the Australian dance party circuit. Now based in Madrid, Spain he is a seasoned veteran performing regularly at the best clubs and festivals where he can be heard unleashing his tech house and minimal techno sounds. Think Richie Hawtin, Dubfire, Adam Beyer.

QUA

Melbourne's Qua is essentially one man, Cornel Wilczek. His music began as dreamy electronic soundscapes in Adelaide, Australia, sometime last century. Fast forward to 2012 and we present the new Qua - heavy, danceable and more abstract and as psychedelic as ever. Fusing techno sounds from a decade past with bleeps and beats from a distant future. As Qua he has released albums on Mush Records - USA, Headz Records -Japan , Surgery Records - Australia & Someone Good - Australia. Qua has toured internationally and become a regular around the national festival and live circuit. Live, Qua is no slouch. He is joined by James Cecil (Super melody, Architecture in Helsinki) on electronic drums and the two completely reinterpret the programmed sounds in an improvised and very organic way with lots of electronic machines.
