“House” music got its name in Chicago, “Techno” got its name in Detroit but both owe their existence to New York City and they all owe it to the electronic beats of Germany's Kraftwerk, The Italian Disco of Kano and the groove and drive of American R&B, Funk and Soul music. When Frankie Knuckles, and everything he learned from New York (and Larry Levan), moved from his birthplace at the age of 22 to DJ at the Warehouse here in Chicago it became the catalyst to “House.” In turn, Detroit’s Belleville Three: Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson and Derrick May, regularly traveled the 283 miles West to be inspired by Frankie and Chicago's Ron Hardy to help them solidify their raw, futuristic world of "Techno." This rotation of music and ideas is how new and creative ideas form and without this exchange of ideas and willingness to expand your horizons there can be no progress.
Rhythmatic: Alliance is a night dedicated to this exchange of ideas and supporting our domestic talent. It’s a night wherein all music fits and there are no classics, no genres, no homes, no fathers, no godfathers, etc. Nothing but good music that moves your body. Every second Wednesday at SmartBar Chicago join the best selectors from the root cities of American Electronic Dance Music: Chicago, Detroit and NYC, as they take you on a journey through movement inducing sound.
