Doc Martin, Eddie Leader, FraidSo
In November we bring you quite possibly one of the most respected and influential American DJs on the scene and a personal favourite of everyone here at Content HQ – Doc Martin.
Back in the early nineties, there wasn't really such thing as a “touring” DJ in America, but after playing many warehouse parties in LA and a chance meeting with New York based DJ Frankie Bones, Doc Martin was asked to go and play at Frankie's night called Storm Rave in New York. From here he landed further gigs and residencies at the infamous Disco 2000, The Building, Save The Robots, the Roxy and the legendary Twilo, amongst others.
At around this time he also began producing under his own name, various aliases and through a joint project with Mark “Blakkat” Bell known as Blakdoktor and has released on labels such as Shaboom, Siesta, Imperial Dub and of course his own Sublevel imprint.
However, Doc is known primarily as a master craftsman when in the DJ booth and his sets at his own Sublevel night are the stuff of legend – often lasting up to 11hrs and encompassing many influences and styles from funk, soul and disco through to house, techno, acid and beyond. When talking about DJing, the term “taking you on a journey” is often bandied about but never truly fulfilled. Doc Martin is one of the few DJs in the world who can completely accomplish that task and do it in a absolutely mind bending manner.
Doc is often cited as being “the DJs DJ” and all of us involved at Content would agree. As his Manchester gigs are rare and his cult following is large, we expect another full house. Tickets are limited to 200 so make sure you book your place to witness a true master, now...
