Gavin Russom is a man of many guises. Whether it’s his highly acclaimed The Crystal Ark project or his deep and dark noodling synth project, Black Meteoric Star he’s always got his hands twisting knobs. As a studied computer music scholar from Bard College, Gavin went on to build his own synthesizers and even play in bands such as LCD Soundsystem, Tim Goldworthy and Bjorn Copeland. After moving to NYC from Berlin, he fleshed out a few hypnotic singles that made it onto the DFA roster. His latest DFA 12” was simply pressed under his own name and released last year.
A real NYC veteran, Justin Strauss busted his chops early on at legendary clubs like Mudd Club,The Ritz, Danceteria and Area. Lately he’s really set fire to the scene, including opening for Thom Yorke at PS1’s last Warm Up Event of the year and also mixing a guest set on Tim Sweeney’s Beats In Space Radio. His Whatever/Whatever DJ moniker with DFA’s Justin Miller has always been a sure fire thing around town as well.
Put lightly, Eddie Mars is nothing short of a synth freak. His productions kick with jarring basslines and heady spaced out arpeggiations. Picked up by UNO Records, his Future EP set the tone for how contemporary italo disco should sound. He’s since gone on to remix artists like Beto Cravioto, Justin Strauss, Name In Lights, and Rewards feat. Solange Knowles.
