„We did it their way“ hat Regis noch im letzten Monats-Flyer zum Ende von Sandwell District gesagt – zum Glück haben er und Function nur ihr gemeinsames Label und nicht ihr gleichnamiges musikalische Projekt eingestellt. Warum sie zu Recht den vielleicht stilprägendsten Techno-Sound der vergangenen fünf Jahre maßgeblich geprägt haben, davon kann man sich bei ihrem Live & DJ Set heute Nacht im Berghain überzeugen. Neben den anderen offensichtlichen Highlights möchten wir euch vor allem das DJ-Set von Johannes Volk ans Herz legen. Der im hessischen Gießen lebende DJ und Produzent veröffentlicht auf seinem (Vinyl only-)Label Exploration extrem tolle, futuristische Technoplatten, die es regelmäßig in die Playlists unserer Lieblings-DJs schaffen. Wir sind gespannt auf sein Berghain-Debüt. Aus Detroit kommt unser heutiger Live Act in der Panorama Bar: Kevin Reynolds hat Ende der Neunziger als Praktikant bei Transmat angefangen und stieg schnell unter den Fittichen seines Mentors Derrick May zum Tontechniker des Labels auf, war als Tourmanager mit Amp Fiddler und der Transmat-All-Stars-Band Time:Space unterwegs, gründete sein eigenes Label (Todchai, irisch-gälisch für Zukunft), spielte vielbeachtete Live-Sets beim DEMF und veröffentlichte u.a. eine superbe Liaison Dangereuses-Hommage auf Richard Zepezauers nsyde.

I guess – without having heard him play – he is probably more a producer, than he is a DJ. Although I really liked some of the podcasts and mixes from him… maybe i´ll catch him the next time, hope so.

Wed, 28 Nov 2012to be honest, for me it was the best set i´ve ever heard, every single track a highlight!! I´ve seen her play quite a few times already, and have to say never saw her going crazy like this time… sometimes she is kind of reserved and serious looking ;-) but I guess this depends a lot on the crowd, the atmosphere and of course the music she is playing!
Anyhow a memorable night this was and i´m still wearing the huge grin from sunday!!

he quite often uses this track as closing track, heard it severals times in one of his sets

Tue, 27 Nov 2012@early_bird. Steffi was EPIC! One of the best sets I have heard. I saw her play in Sydney a few months ago for the first time and she seemed quite reserved with her interaction with the crowd. At Panorama you could really tell she was playing to her people. She was going crazy behind the decks!! Amazing music!! I thought berghain was going to lift off into outer space.

Tue, 27 Nov 2012On a more detailed way, the beginning was really good, the 2 first hours, but then he played more dancefloor tunes that weren't all interesting enough to get really my attention (to use the words of stinger). One of the very good moments is when he dropped his next exploration 05 (I suppose it was that one, since a friend told me that an exp 005 promo copy was on the deck). madly looking forward to hear her play at berghain too! it´ll be my first time, although i heard she has already played downstairs a few times?! very curious!
how was Johannes Volk like? did i miss a lot??
