Line-up / Monkey Majik
Yoshida Brothers
MONKEY MAJIK is a Japanese-Canadian pop rock band formed in 2000 in Sendai, Japan. The band currently consists of Canadian brothers, Maynard Plant and Blaise Plant, each acting as lead vocalists and guitarists, as well as two Japanese members: tax on drums, and DICK on bass. Due to the natural blend of both Eastern and Western pop rock influences, MONKEY MAJIK has often been referred to as a "hybrid band".
The Yoshida Brothers (吉田兄弟 Yoshida Kyōdai?) are Japanese musicians who have released several albums under the Domo Records. The two brothers are performers of the traditional Japanese music style of Tsugaru-jamisen which originated in northern Japan. They debuted in 1999 in Japan as a duo playing the shamisen. Their music has been a fusion of the rapid and percussive Tsugaru-jamisen style along with Western and other regional musical influences. In addition to performing songs that are only on the shamisen, they also use modern instruments such as drums and synthesizers.
Continuing it's series of charity concerts, Monkey Majik joins Yoshida Brothers for a double headliner North American tour. This will be the Monkey Majik’s first North America tour since the Canada tour in 2009. We believe that the collaboration between Monkey Majik representing the crossover of Japan and overseas/foreign cultures, and the Yoshida Brothers representing Japan’s authentic culture will be the perfect opportunity to send our gratitude to the people who has supported Japan’s recovery from the 311 disaster as well as to continue to spread the word of the importance of remembering the lessons we have learned from the quake.
