FLOCK resident:
Elysium Blak
After three glorious years of gracing the dance floors of Leeds’ pulsating underground landscape, nurturing our ear drums and cultivating our musical taste, we four Flock heads have a potent fusion of collective nous when it comes to the proper party experience.
We’ve been itching to host a night where we call all the shots and having thoroughly tried and tested London’s nocturnal underbelly, we thought it was about time we went a step further and did something ourselves.
So, we founded Flock, a new party for our friends, friends of friends and further afield.
It’s our opening night but that doesn’t mean we’re holding back. We’ve got an amazing new London venue for you lot to have one hell of a knees-up at and a class rostrum of artists to entertain you all.
The Apothecary is the new sister club of The Egg, one of London’s premier venues, and it’s a cracker. With not one, but two, Funktion One sound systems installed, an eye-boggling LED lighting system spread over the dance floor, a roofed garden terrace outside and an intimate capacity of 300, it’s a venue we’re hugely excited about inhabiting. This will certainly be one seasonal soiree not to be missed.
It’s a dirty cliché, but tickets for our opening showcase really will fly out of the door pretty quickly and having spotted the line-up, you might see why.
We're really excited to be welcoming one of the UK's finest deep house producers to our opening showcase. Hailing from the leafy home counties and connecting with music at a young age, Tim Hopgood AKA Ethyl, displays a musical knowledge and affinity for the groove far beyond his 25 years. Like many of today's finest, while constantly looking forward, he has one eye placed firmly on the retrospective. First taking to the turntables at the age of 13 and gaining his first residency as soon as the law allowed at 18, Tim has tapped into the mentality of the dance floor, crafting impeccable selections for hypnotic effect. These skills have seen him win slots at the Capital's underground hotspots, across the UK and at Ibiza's most prestigious venues before a production had even dropped.
Whether on solo excursions or in tandem with pals Flori or Huxley, productions that bear Ethyl's name are raw joints, both sonically complex and rhythmically commanding. The eclectic approach of Ethyl's productions are maintained by a deep groove, with nods to early 90s US house & garage and effortless glimmers of Detroit influence. With experience all over the capital, Berlin, and in Ibiza territory, his impeccable choice cuts hold no bars. Expect a delightful master-class of deep house grooves and choice cuts; his two hour set is sure to get the place bouncing.
Insistent percussion and throbbing bass at all hours of the day and night really doesn't cater for healthy sleeping pattern. And we would know, having had the raw talent of Loco records protégé, and our very own in-street resident/next-door neighbour/bedroom deejay, Jonny Cade, strutting his stuff up in Leeds for the duration of our stint as students in the city. We are certainly not complaining though; there are far worse ways to be kept awake at night - listening to the atomic sounds of Mr Cade isn’t one of them. Having mastered the drums for the past 16 years now, it is fair to say Mr Cade has a more than solid grasp on straight up house music. Just 23 years old and with a big bag of releases on labels such as Kolour Recordings, Loco Records, 2020Vision, collaborations with Huxley plus a smashing podcast for the big boys, Defected, earlier this year, Jonny is already on the cusp of big, big things.
Our first encounter with Timmy P involved an abrupt smash to the thorax with a rampant, un-relenting high-hat snare and a rolling 125 BPM bass cloud; first impressions stuck. The new Flock resident fits smoothly into our ecosystem of brave, chugging house grooves. A masterful producer with a passion for a raw, organic house sounds and bouncing flavours, it might come as no surprise to hear this guy has been snapped up by one of the best labels this year, Local Talk. It’s a pleasure to introduce the talents of Timmy P on our opening night.
Finally, warming up supple limbs destined for the dance floor, with a notoriously deep, bassy and infectious sound will be our very own Elysium Blak - the name behind our musically talent duo from the wilderness. Expect an enticing selection of slow BPM rollers to get the party started.
See you there.
