Beefing up our monthly residency and helping us to blow out the candles on the Grand Social birthday cake we’ve hauled in deep house dj/producer and Retrofit label boss JAY SHEPHEARD for his debut show in Ireland who will be joined in stage by local hero JAPE.
Following a background behind the scenes in the dance music industry, first in music PR then seven years at UK online music store Juno Records, Jay Shepheard has gone on to build a reputation as one of the key figures in the new wave of electronic music.
Starting in back in 2007 with nu-discoid favourite “Pipes’n'Sneakers” on Munich’s Compost Black Label, Jay has gone on to release productions and remixes with a diverse range of influential labels including Buzzin Fly, Rebirth, Freerange and Diynamic. These releases have consistently achieved critical acclaim from DJs, music lovers and the press alike and earned him nominations for Best Deep House act of 2007 and Best Nu Disco act of 2009 in the Beatport Music Awards. Clocking up a RA podcast this year coupled with tours of Australia, the U.S.A and Europe, along a double remix of Penguin Prison, we’re delighted to have Jay booked in for a special Live/DJ show…
Also on the bill is Nightflight favourite, JAPE who began in 2003 as a solo project of Dublin musician Richard Egan. Over the years, the band has evolved to become one of Ireland’s most exciting and energetic live acts blending meticulously crafted lyrics with upbeat electronic rhythms.
Using an innovative mix of live instruments, hardware samplers and sequencers, the band create a sound that encompasses many different styles and spans genres and JAPE their storming performance at Airbound in Croatia in 2009 has lived long in memory. They have been covered by The Raconteurs and won the prestigious Choice Music Prize in 2008. Jape has since toured extensively and produced an array of new material, some of which we hope to hear on November 3rd.
