SIMON BAKER - GET PHYSICAL/2020Vision
Simon Baker headed into 2012 with the result of a recent move to London dramatically expanding his horizons. The exposure to new surroundings and sources of inspiration saw him throw himself into studio work during the first months of the year, with exciting results.
Simon returned to home label 2020 Vision with the ‘Let Me In’, complete with a Lee Curtiss remix which was a sensation. There was a welcome return to Get Physical with the outstanding ‘Trust’ single, also an EP on label du jour Leftroom wihich hit the top 10 on Beatport, and collaborations with Robert James on Saved. An appearance on hotly-tipped new UK imprint Fina Records was closely followed.
Next moves for Simon are mixing Get Physcial’s Full Body Work Out Volume 9, and an exciting release on Sasha’s new label Last night On Earth, so 2012 is certainly looking good for Simon so far.
Pitching between house, deep house and techno, with his debut LP ‘Traces’ on 2020 Vision last year – greeted unanimously by the electronic community with accolades from Resident Advisor, Mixmag, DJ Mag and Electronic Groove, receiving a 5/5 as ‘Album of the Month’ in DJ Mag and ending up in the former’s ‘Top 20 Albums OF The Year’ –Simon showcased his most musical side to date.
On the back of an extensive world tour, Simon being a regular fixture at the BPM festival in Mexico, Kehakuma at Space in Ibiza, fabric in London, not to mention the many air london showcases in Miami, Paris, Barcelona and Ibiza, in the months to come he looks to add to his mindboggling back-catalogue with a plethora of forthcoming releases and collaborations on some of today’s hottest imprints.
CLIVE HENRY - DC10/CIRCO LOCO
Clive Henry is one half of the influential tastemaker production team known as PEACE DIVISION. Peace Division are also highly rated and very much in demand for their creative remixing skills.
An overnight success ? Not !! Clive has been clubbing for over 15 years now and has been a DJ for over 12 !! After a couple of years regularly attending London’s now legendary Shoom , Spectrum and Queens, he started running and playing at his own successful partries called GOSH, which he co-promoted alongside Rocky ( Xpress 2 / Problem kids ) then later with Charlie Chester.
As Gosh came to a close after an eventful and successful 3 years, Clive reunited with Rocky and new boy Lofty ( Flying / Chilli Funk Records ) to start a new night called THE BONE which showcased talent such as DAVID HOLMES, ASHLEY BEEDLE and BOB JONES amongst other legendary jocks.
As the parties grew in popularity so did Clive’s reputation as a DJ. He soon found himself gracing the decks at FLYING at the Soho Theatre Club , Full Circle, Back to Basics ( Leeds ), Venus ( Nottingham ) and Cream to name a few. International bookings have taken him to Ibiza, Crete, Majorca, Malta, Mexico, Portugal, Prague, Amsterdam, Italy, Germany, Turkey, Japan, Australia and America
DARIUS SYROSSIAN - VIVA WARRIORS
Darius Syrossian is a long-serving, fully subscribed slave to TRUE. HOUSE. MUSIC. Since moving to UK shores as a 14 year old, his fascination with electronic music has never waned having initially been infected by its futuristic lure at an underground party back in 1991. Taking formative influences from Detroit and Chicago masters like Kenny Dope, Danny Tenaglia, Derrick May, DJ Sneak and Carl Craig, a pure and unadulterated house sound has always been Darius’ pre-occupation in place of passing fads or zeitgeist defining trends.
The last 12 months have seen Darius play just about every continent on the planet, as well as spending a six-week stint traversing all the finest clubs in all four corners of the United States of America & Canada plus lauded festivals like Sonar, Miami WMC, Production-wise the man’s also on a hot run of form: one of his tracks sits proudly in RA’s top 100 most charted tracks of 2011 and not only was his “I Am The Creator Of Jack” track the highest selling jewel in the crown of Heidi’s recent Jackathon compilation, but so too have Darius tracks been licensed to Adam Beyer’s Cocoon Heroes mix and a 5 Years of 8Bit compilation. Most recently, however, DJ Sneak has built his hard-hitting and upcoming fabric 62 around Darius’ fierce remix of Hector Couto’s “Creampie”.. “he told me that at fabric” adds the man behind it.
Arguably the biggest development over the years, however, was meeting Steve Lawler at Sankeys in 2008. After playing some of Darius tunes in his set, the Birmingham legend later contacted him with a view to releasing on VIVa MUSiC, and the rest is history. Darius has now become an integral member of the VIVa team, so much so he now presents a two hour monthly radio show for the label, inviting and interviewing a connoisseur blend of established and up coming talent alike: Seth Troxler, Soul Clap, & Deetron
SAM RUSSO - LEFTROOM
Sam Russo’s hunger to spread his ideas globally is driven by an open minded approach to the floor. After developing strong ides as a highly respected engineer, he is now stepping out from behind the scenes to begin his ascension in his own right.
Long months in 2012 spent working with Matt Tolfrey on his debut album have planted big ambitions in the young artist’s head. This inspiration is driving him as he seeks to build on a series of collaborations with Tolfrey, Huxley and Craig Richards that have seen him grow a strong back catalogue since his debut release in 2010.
Influenced by the smooth rhythms of US house to Berlin’s Basic Channel and Maurizio, Russo’s productions not only stand out on the floor but are tempered by an expansive deepness. With EPs on Leftroom, Air London and 1Trax currently bubbling the limelight is shifting towards Russo as a solo artist. Add to this more collabs with Huxley, Jordan Peak and Halo as well an expanding DJ schedule, more and more people are sitting up and taking notice.
Working with current hot properties as well as luminaries such as Craig Richards, ideas have been nurtured in Russo far beyond his years. Not just in the studio, it would be impossible for the young producer not to absorb Richards’ gospel behind the decks, Russo prides himself on finding unique tracks and finding new ways to put them together.
