Sunil Sharpe (Sheworks, Black Sun Records, Earwiggle)
Sunil Sharpe is one of Ireland's most celebrated underground DJs. Honing his turntable skills at the end of the '90s, he played his first club gigs in late 2000 - soon gaining a formidable reputation for his quick fire mixing and fast paced sets that were to be heard regularly across the country and in many parts of Europe (including an early appearance at Berlin's Tresor Club in 2001).
Sunil's first vinyl releases came in 2006, however recently dedicating more time to production, a fresh wave of 12"s in the last year on Komisch (as 'Tricaustic'), Black Sun Records and Blawan & Pariah's 'Works The Long Nights' (aka Sheworks), as well as a number of well received remixes, have signaled an exciting new stage in his ever-evolving career. With techno moving back to a more intense sound again recently, Sunil's productions have never felt more at home.
After a near 8-year spell working at Spindizzy record shop (2002-10), Sunil made the move to All-City where he has established a space for new and secondhand techno/electro/house vinyl under the Earwiggle banner, as well as an in-house label of the same name - that counts anodyne, Steve Stoll, Paul Birken and Freddy Fresh amongst its small group of artists.
Sunil has been part of national station RTE 2FM's 'Late Night Sessions' team since 2006 (after a long run on both local and pirate radio), where each month he features his top selection of new music as well as guest appearances from some of his favourite acts. He is also a DJ Techniques tutor at Bray Institute of Further Education, where he has taught each year since 2005.
Sunil's popularity has extended its way outside of the techno scene too, and he was further acknowledged in 2011 when he was voted 'Best DJ' at the Irish Dance Music Awards. A firm believer in playing the very best records he has rather than only the new, Sunil's DJ sets reflect his favourite styles from the past up to the present, with his trademark techno energy showing no sign of letting up.
