We meet a couple of young and undeniably skilled DJs for the first time this February, Ben UFO and San Soda.
We love people who are truly respected for what they're good at, and Ben UFO is a prime example. Having never released any music, he is one of the rare few who breaks through solely as a DJ, whose skills on the decks are enough to satisfy audiences right the way around the globe.
Part of the Hessle Audio crew, founded here in Leeds in 2007 alongside Ramadanman and Pangaea, Ben's status has skyrocketed over the last few years. Furiously gigging all over the world at most of the high profile spots you could possibly think of. He has mixed the most recent Fabric Live compilation, set for release in January, which has received rave reviews from fans and peers alike. He's a vinyl junkie with excellent taste and technical skills to match, and this will be his first appearance at Mint Club. Like us he cut his teeth on the Leeds music scene, and it'll be great to welcome him back.
Young Belgian producer Nicolas Geysens AKA San Soda is next up, bringing his infectious and pure housey sound to Leeds. Alongside Red D, he's part of the production duo FCL, who are responsible for some of the biggest bombs of the last few years. 'Let's Go' was a slam dunk in 2010, and more recently 'It's You'; of which San's Panoramabar Remix tore up dance floors in 2012, and fetches for at least 500 quid on discogs!
Interestingly San got into the house game via his local football team. He handed Red D (one of his team mates) a demo, and the timing was perfect; Red was in the process of starting up a label. We Play House was formed, and has ever since been an outlet for the both of their tunes, receiving world wide acclaim as one of Europe's leading house imprints.
With past and future gigs in Panoramabar, a much acclaimed performance at Sonar, a temporary move to Berlin and around-the-world bookings in Canada, the US and many European countries it is safe to say that San Soda’s take on house and good music in general will stay in the picture for a little while longer…
Hold tight as we present Ben UFO & San Soda!
