Pantha Du Prince + The Bell Laboratory
Southbank Centre is thrilled to present the UK live premiere of 'Elements of Light' - the new landmark work from Pantha du Prince, in his first London headline show since appearing at Ether in 2011.
Pantha Du Prince (aka Hendrik Weber) is celebrated for pushing the envelope of electronic music through his own original compositions, including the highly acclaimed 'Black Noise' (Rough Trade, 2010) and remixes for high-profile artists such as Animal Collective and Philip Glass.
His newest effort, 'Elements of Light', a collaborative project with The Bell Laboratory, is doubtless his most ambitious to date. The work is a symphony for electronics, percussion and bell carillon, a three-tonne instrument comprising 50 bronze bells.
The piece is a fusion of electronic music and classical composition, and draws on house and minimalism, jazz and new music, gamelan and western sacred music, taking influences from John Cage, Iannis Xenakis, Steve Reich, LaMonte Young and Moondog.
