Butter Side Up & Lowbrow at Canal Mills (Room 2)
Saturday 23rd February 2013
10:00pm – 6:00am
Canal Mills (Brandon St, LS12 2ED)

In the last few months we have witnessed a beautiful friendship blossom out of the Leeds underground. A friendship born out of smokey backroom afterparties and a certain knack when it comes to creating an unparalleled party atmosphere for the people; combine that with a pack of likeminded individuals who have a mutual love of exquisitely crafted electronic music and you have a quintessential recipe for a serious party. Butter Side Up & Lowbrow combine to bring you a selection of the finest musical delights this planet has to offer. We think you’ll dig this.

Kris Wadsworth (Hypercolour / Get Physical, US)

First up we have one of the most in demand producers of the moment, Kris Wadsworth. A self-made, self-taught musical wonder who has consistently delivered an unreal amount of high-class techno delights in recent years. Always a regular fixture in any intelligent selectors record collection, Wadsworth has received praise from critics, journalists and music heads the world over for his innovative approach when plying his trade.

Raised in Detroit, the heart of all things techno, he was already releasing his music to the masses at the tender age of 18. Wadsworth is renowned for his sublime remixes of some of the industry’s most respected artists and he certainly deserves his title as one of the most creative minds the scene has had the pleasure of witnessing. With releases on heavyweight players such as Get Physical and Hypercolour, Kris has a whole bag of tricks to delve into.

A vinyl head through and through, Wadsworth is as at home with DJing that he is with producing and with a forthcoming album set to be released on Hypercolour later this year, it was a perfect time for us to bring Kris back to Leeds with a bang.

DJ Deep (Deeply Rooted / Tresor, FR)

Cyril Etienne des Rosaies AKA DJ Deep is a true connoisseur of the electronic arts. A DJ’s DJ one might say? Since being spotted by Laurent Garnier near on twenty years ago, the Parisian native has forged a singular path in House and Techno, becoming known for his sublime musical selection and appreciation of the finer points of the art form. His lengthy career has played out over the radio waves, as well as in the most prestigious clubs in the world, including a longstanding residency at The Rex in Paris during the 90s.

As head of Deeply Rooted House, he has acquired some of the most respected artists in the business, such as Franck Roger and Kerri Chandler, to release their material alongside his own productions. Deep’s work stretches further afield than just being an artist; alongside Jerome Barbe he designed the DJR400 Rotary mixer, which is now considered the ultimate DJ mixer of choice by the likes of Theo Parrish and Carl Craig as well as the man himself. After witnessing him tear the roof off Panorama Bar last year we had to have him grace our humble city once more. DJ Deep is an intellectual, an innovator and a champion selector of the highest order…you won’t be disappointed.

Cottam (Aus / Wolf Music, UK)

Cottam has been a long time friend of ours, and certainly one of our favourite artists in house music at this present time. His rise to fame in 2009 with his limited edition 12”s that fused together a unique blend of disco, house, hip hop and afro-beat were nothing short of legendary and saw him thrust into the limelight. Notoriously gracious whenever he adorns the decks, every tune is meticulously selected for the sonic journey ahead.

His individuality is what makes him such a treat on the ears, masterfully crafting sub-aquatic acid house with such effortless ease. With a back catalogue on such well-respected labels as Aus, Quintessential, Fina and Wolf Music, the family man has an unbelievably busy schedule ahead! It gives us great pleasure to welcome this legend back to Leeds, and we know he will have you leaving with a smile on your face.
