Tender Hooks with DJ Koze, Mister Saturday Night, Dark Sky, Cottam photo gallery
On April 26th Tender Hooks returns for their sophomore curation at the inimitable Corsica Studios. Following their debut escapade in February with Gerd, Legowelt and Serge; they’re back with another killer line-up oozing with depth and character.
DJ Koze tops the bill with a 4-hour set as part of his album tour for new LP ‘Amygdala’. The German underground hero has been heralded ‘The DJ's DJ’ year after year, fusing on-point selections with extraordinary showmanship. His new album is a rich tapestry of atmosphere, scenes and rhythms that consistently both engages and challenges the listener and it is - quite rightly - being dubbed as as Koze's ‘Sgt. Pepper’. Featuring collaborations with luminaries such as Caribou, Apparat, Matthew Dear and Dirk von Lotzow amongst others, ‘Amygdala’ is an intriguing and exciting listen. Expect to hear it in full, mixed in his own unique style over a four-hour stint. This is a rare appearance from the electronic maestro and not something to be missed.
Support in the main room comes from one of Preston’s finest talents - Cottam. Shooting to prominence in 2009 with his three cloak-and-dagger untitled releases, he's since been developing an uncommon style of sub-aquatic acid house and releasing on labels as diverse as Wolf Music, Delusions of Grandeur and Quintessentials. One to watch in the coming months, Cottam will be warming things up with skill, grace and a few surprises thrown in for good measure.
Tender Hooks residents will be laying it down from the get-go, rounding off the bill nicely.
In room 2 Dark Sky and Mister Saturday Night share the spotlight to celebrate the Dark Sky boys’ forthcoming ‘In Brackets’ release on the Mister Saturday Night imprint.
Eamon Harkin and Justin Carter, the pair behind Mister Saturday Night, have their own way of doing things. They've thrown more than a hundred parties in New York over the past few years, mostly in lofts and other unconventional venues. They determine every detail of every event, from booking the DJs to tweaking the sound to telling the security how to treat the crowd. Their end goal with all this can be boiled down to one simple idea: community. In their own words, Mister Saturday Night is not necessarily for the heads - it's for everybody, including people who are new to clubs and electronic music. Sometimes there are guest DJs, sometimes there aren't. Either way, the parties are packed. Meanwhile, their record label has taken off with some strong EPs - not least Anthony Naples' ‘Mad Disrespect’, one of RA's top tracks from last year.
Dark Sky ain’t the new kids on the block any more. The London based trio have been consistently putting out quality music right across the genre spectrum for the past 3 years. Last year saw some of their biggest success to date with critically acclaimed EPs Radius and Black Rainbows finding their way into many a record collection. The guys are super influential in London’s music scene and produce a weekly program on NTS Radio in which you can expect to hear anything from Donald Byrd to Redshape. 2013 is set to be another stormer for this highly in-demand collective. Their Spring schedule is crazy and Tender Hooks are delighted to welcome them back fresh from a U.S. tour in which they’ll be performing at the infamous Mister Saturday Night itself at one of New York’s coolest establishments – The House Of Yes. We’re thrilled to have the Dark Sky boys playing an extended set in their favorite London hangout so prepare to indulge and be dazzled in a journey that will take you through one of the capital’s best record collections. Support comes from NTS' Charlie Bones and Mr.Wonderful.
