Line-up /Ry & Frank Wiedemann Live
Oval Space Music continue their diverse 2013 programme with a rare appearance from Ry & Frank Wiedemann and their stunning ‘The Howling’ Live show. This unlikely partnership see's the union of Frank Wiedemann, co-founder of German power-house label Innervisions with Australian-born, LA-based singer-songwriter Ry Cuming. ‘The Howling’, released on Innervisions in 2012 was a surprise to most for its delicate acoustic form; with Frank's past very much routed in the underground German house music scene and Ry previously signed to giants Jive Records. The detail of their meeting and partnership has been kept an intriguing mystery, but the beautifully constructed results speak for themselves.
Putting aside his longstanding role as half of Âme, Frank Wiedemann’s solo project — or at least its first release — takes on an unexpected form. Rather than house, jazz, classical, techno, ambient, or some amalgam of all the sounds Âme has tackled since 2002, ‘The Howling’ is a largely acoustic ballad performed with vocalist and guitarist Ry Cuming.
Released on Innervisions in 2012, the buzz behind Ry & Frank Wiedemann had a very specific germination: Dixon closed his Boiler Room mix from 2012 with ‘Howling’, resulting in huge public intrigue and what felt like a very long wait before the record was finally released. This might be Innervisions first release to divert from a dance floor aesthetic, but it's not exactly a left-turn for these guys: with it’s unsyncopated thump, pleasingly emotive synth lines and an alone-in-a-room male vocal line, it fits their profile better than you might initially foresee. After a sold out show at Berlin’s Watergate last year, Oval Space Music invite you to join them for a very special performance from Ry & Frank.
Before Ry & Frank grace the stage, Rough Trade's recently crowned 'Album of the Month' duo Stubborn Heart, and new Pictures Music signing William Arcane, will play forward thinking live electronic sets.
