Suede welcomes Berlin based, techno producer HANS BERG to deliver a live set, showcasing his unique soundtrack of warm synth led, melodic techno.
Whether exams are over, not quite done yet or you’re still at work-either way it’s beginning to look like summer so we may as well throw a little party. Bringing you something a little different with a live techno set from the super talented Hans Berg of Leeds label Fullbarr, and a look through the record collections of the supporting acts its sure to be a night of quality tunes and dancing non stop - especially if you carry on to the after party ;)
Swedish producer Hans Berg has been honing his own sound for years. First in the small town in which he lived – variously drumming in punk bands, playing around with synths and more – but more recently in his adopted hometown of Berlin. There he continued his sound design work with video artist Nathalie Djurberg, crafting an experimental six-channel soundtrack that has been showcased in museums and art spaces from London to New York, even winning a Silver Lion Award back in 2009. Now, though, it’s Berg’s delicate techno that is making waves across the electronic scene whilst the man himself has moved back home.
Having first emerged with an individual selection of originals and remixes on labels like Crime City Disco, Kant and his base label Fullbarr a full length album is due for the latter in the coming summer months of 2013 on the Fullbarr. Inspired by the old school sounds he heard in his youth – from acid to Detroit techno – Berg sees no boundaries between different musical forms and one of his live sets is testament to that. Non standard sounds, analogue warmth and plenty of beautiful synth patterns characterise Berg’s emotive music; as such it will move you both physically and mentally.
It’s reassuring to know that the young bloods still care; that flooding charts is not always the MO, and that artistic value can still be prized above ubiquity. Take Fullbarr for example – a boutique label of love from the mind of 24 year old Arthur Barr. He’s not an established DJ, a hyped producer or anything else; rather he’s a fan of fine electronic music who wants to add to the global conversation with his own unique accent.
And he has been doing just that with an admirably DIY approach since 2010, fusing the depths of dub, the power of techno and the mood of house into mature and alluring soundscapes that take inspiration from “parties, music, artists and friends from around the globe.” It’s a simple and honest mission, and one that is serving the Bradford based label well, with support coming in from both on and offline press (think RA, DJ Mag, De: Bug). Of course, more important than what some holed-up desk jockeys say, is what the all important disc jockey says…. And alas, with plays and chartings from top-dogs including Seth Troxler, Jozif, Ripperton, Kenny Larkin, Francois K and M A N I K, Fullbarr can sleep easy.
