"We need less boring, boring indie boys! Think we need an injection of snarling grrrl voices? Me too! That's why I'm bloody obsessed with snarling London rawk types Scanners whose singer Sarah is a shining bright star in its ascendancy. They're like all the songs Kim Gordon sings in Sonic Youth, but played by Motorhead at their early-'80s peak. And if that doesn't sound brilliant to you, perhaps it might be worth slicing off your ears and giving them to someone who deserves them, yeah?" NME
"Scanners might well be providing us with Yeah Yeah Yeahs style thrashy kicks in the new year...dripping with highs and lows...alluring throughout" ARTROCKER
THEORETICAL GIRL (live)
Theoretical Girl, aka Amy Turnnidge, is at present one of music’s best kept secrets – but not for much longer. Amy is fast gaining a reputation as an exciting and original live proposition and has already played alongside the likes of Maximo Park, Robyn, Good Shoes, Calvin Harris and Kate Nash. They have also toured internationally and built up a healthy fan base across Europe after support slots with the likes of Loney, Dear and Shit Disco. Her debut single for Salvia Records, ‘The Hypocrite’ met with rave reviews – as have her recent live shows. The future looks bright indeed.
KIDS LOVE LIES (live)
Kids Love Lies are a fast and fierce female fronted band who formed in November 2007 and have been taking the London gig scene by storm with their impassioned performances! With a plethora of influences from bands like Siouxsie & the Banshees to the Mars Volta, they
combine fast, punchy riffs with powerful female vocals to carve out their own unique energy filled sound.
NADIA KSAIBA (DJ)
At a time when everyone and their dog are hitting the decks, and quality control levels are at an all-time low, Ms Ksaiba’s here to remind people how it’s done. As one quarter of legendary London night And Did We Mention Our Disco she’s been championing new dance music for five years now, moulding the Capital’s scene into what it resembles today. As well as being the first night to have ever brought the Gomma and DFA record labels to British soil, they remain the only selectors to have filled in at Scotland’s world famous Optimo night, and have featured guests slots from 2Manydjs, Erol Alkan, Tiefschwarz, James Murphy, The Glimmers, Hot Chip, Optimo, Tim Sweeny, Lindstrom & Prins Thomas, Delia and Gavin, Trevor Jackson, Zongamin, Midnight Mike, Captain comatose and many more.
Plus music from your resident host David H playing New Wave, Electro and Disco in The Main Room.
Be presents The Non-Stop Electric Cabaret in The South Gallery, a Rock n Roll burlesque featuring the exquisite Miss Vicky Butterfly and this week's guest Chrys Columbine: burlesque princess, babydoll pin-up + pianist extraordinaire! DJ Bioux provides the perfect musical accompaniment to the evenings performances, spinning a potent mix of 50s Garage, Sleaze and Exotica.
