Bok Bok, Girl Unit, Vandelay
For our next event we are absolutely thrilled to bring you Night Slug's very own Bok Bok and Girl Unit. Two DJ's we've been planning on booking for a very long time. To us, Night Slugs represented the hybrid sound somewhere between house, grime, techno, hip hop and more long before it became common to see a DJ mix all of them together in the same set. We're VERY excited to finally have them both playing in Glasgow after a long absence and this promises to be well worth the wait.
Bok Bok is the London based DJ, producer, remixer and director of the incendiary Night Slugs record label. Back when everyone was asking 'Wot U Call It?' he was leading the way, seeing parallels between the homegrown music of London and House music from Chicago to South Africa, Techno, Baltimore/Jersey/Philly Club, 80s funk and a myriad other music styles across many eras. For Bok Bok, all these musics came together to form a seamless timeline, all complimenting, echoing and supplementing each other.
Girl Unit started off making Miami Bass, Ghettotech and House tracks, getting his first taste of club shows at some of the early Night Slugs events in London. Like Bok Bok, he sought out to draw connections from classic 808/909 rhythm tracks and club tools through to ice Rap/Grime/R&B instrumentals via US club tracks and more purpose-built material from the Night Slugs label. 2013 also brings his side project Hysterics to the fray, with releases as part of the Night Slugs Club Construction series out now and more primed for release imminently.
Back to back, side to side, top and tail catch them in the booth joined by our resident Vandelay on the 26th October. Not to be missed!
