SAT 26TH APRIL - Be Presents ...with FIGURINES, THE LATE GREATS, EDWARD J HICKS + THOUGHTLESS HUSSIES DJs
Denmark’s answer to The Beach Boys crossed with blogosphere favourites The Shins, Modest Mouse and Tapes ‘n’ Tapes, our headliners freshly released their third album, When The Deer Wore Blue in February ‘08. Following an incredible headline set at Bestivals Radio 1 Presents stage last summer, and European support dates with Kaiser Chiefs in 2007, they’ll come deliver their all new, quirky and melodic songs at their first London show this spring. “As far as stripped back guitar-pop goes, this Danish indie quartet do it damn near perfect… this is a lesson in awesomeness” says PLAN B. We agree.
THE LATE GREATS (live)
From the seaside town of Eastbourne, sandwiched between Brighton and Hastings, The Late Greats are coming for you. In equal parts, intelligent, intense, chaotic, earnest, fragile and strong, their songs grab you by the throat and insist that you give them your full attention. See them live for proof, they’ve literally had people bouncing off the walls as support to Late of The Pier, Howling Bells, Whirlwind Heat, Blood Red Shoes.
EDWARD J HICKS (live)
After years of playing just about every genre under the cracked sun in any dive that would put him up, Edward J Hicks gathered together a handful of car-boot finds, dirty pictures and tattered keepsakes and embarked upon his quest to personally craft the true ‘old-core’ sound. On record he seems to come from some place where Howling Wolf, Nick Cave, Rick James and Chet Baker still hang with the old delta Blues players. Oh, and the boy can sing.
THOUGHTLESS HUSSIES DJS
Thoughtless Hussies started their DJing career with a residency in the top room of KoKo and have since gone on to play venues like Fabric, The Egg and Berlin's Villa and supporting the likes of Mr Oizo, Scratch Peverts, Simian Mobile Disco, Sinden, Pendulum and Kissy Sell Out - Impressive considering they're 20 or under. Their sound has been described by Time Out magazine as 'scrot tingling' but for a better idea of what the boys are all about, you'll have to check them out for yourselves.
Plus music from your resident host David H playing New Wave, Electro and Disco in The Main Room.
Be presents The Non-Stop Electric Cabaret in The South Gallery, a Rock n Roll burlesque featuring the exquisite Miss Vicky Butterfly and this week's guest Ruby Blues. DJ Bioux provides the perfect musical accompaniment to the evenings performances, spinning a potent mix of 50s Garage, Sleaze and Exotica.
All hosted in the harder, better, faster, stronger Proud. This revamped venue is twice the size of the legendary original, and boasts 3 gallery spaces including 8 private stable booths and a 450 capacity live room - all the better for hosting the most beautifully intoxicating parties in town!
