Line-up /Loefah (UK, DMZ), Erther (Rude Bwoyz), Frosty (Hard Graft), Forest of Death (White Rhino) and Swob, Walrii & Danck (Dank Morass)
Dank Morass are incredibly excited to present, direct from London, an exclusive Brisbane show from dubstep pioneer Loefah, who will bring an incomparable set of dubstep bass pressure to the Step Inn on Saturday 2 August.
A genuine pioneer and innovator of the dubstep sound and key figure in the explosion of the surrounding scene, Loefah (along with Digital Mystikz aka Mala and Coki) has built the genre’s most revered label and club night - DMZ. Having torn the roof of parties across Europe with his dub and hip hop influenced take on dubstep, he now brings his show down under for the first time.
In The Wire’s roundup of the essential records that have come to define the constantly evolving of dubstep, there were no minced words: “No one cuts harder and deeper than Loefah.” From his contribution to Rephlex Records’ semial Grime 2 compilation to the slow-motion-skull-crushing impact of singles like “Horror Show”, “Goat Stare” and “Ruffage”, the man has been an essential ingredient in the pressure-cooked broth of dubstep. His remixes of The Bug’s “Jah War” and Vex’d’s “Third Choice” confirm his ability to treat the darkest dubs with his ethereally morbid aesthetic.
Loefah’s bimonthly DMZ party in Brixton is without question the pivotal night in the growth of dubstep, and he has since branched out to host a monthly dancehall/dubstep night in London in conjunction with The Bug (Kevin Martin, Ninja Tune). With highly anticipated new productions due for late 2008, Loefah is sure to have unheard pressure in his crates for his first Australian tour.
Joining him on the night will be Rudebwoyz scion Erther, Hard Graft originator Frosty, the entire Dank Morass crew and Forest of Death, who have been behind the recent White Rhino art/beats extravaganzas.
