It’s the battle of the Detroit Techno giants! Originator of the genre Juan Atkins heads up this mighty sonic battle against Underground Resistance, Detroit based act of man and machine.
Juan Atkins alongside schoolmate Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson started recording after hearing synthesizers in Parliament track ‘Flashlight’. He bought his first synthesizer, a Korg MS10, and began recording with cassette decks and a mixer for overdubs. He subsequently taught May to mix, and the pair started doing DJ sets together as Deep Space. Atkins set up legendary label, Cybotron, followed by Metroplex under which Atkins wrote under the moniker of Model 500 and his first single ‘No UFOs’ was a hit in Detroit and Chicago. He followed it with a series of landmark techno tracks, earning him the nickname "the godfather of Techno."
He is battling against Underground Resistance, the outfit that has been assaulting stages since 1991. The band’s skill, musicianship, disciplined manners and intelligent interviews have made them and the label some of the most respected ambassadors of Detroit Techno all over the world. UR are being represented by Mark Flash, Skurge and Dex.
In the early 80’s Mark Flash played freestyle and electro-club music that would soon become the sound of Detroit's southwest side. Sponsoring parties and passing out mix tapes he built himself up as a force to be reckoned with anywhere. Flash began flexing his musicianship as a behind the scenes producer for the house music label, Soul City. This brought him to the attention of the Upstart Records crew where he joined as an artist. Merging House, Techno, and Funk. He is now releasing on Underground Resistance.

Underground Resistance DJ and Producer Dex aka Nomadico. Dex has worked hard in the studio, mixing and editing tracks for UR, Los Hermanos, Orlando Voorn and DJ 3000. His talents behind the turntables have taken him throughout Japan, Europe and South America as a tour DJ and member of UR's Timeline band. He's helped bring UR to NYC's best techno venues and he also has the distinction of being the first member of UR to play in mainland China.

DJ Skurge was exposed to electronic music at an early age, perhaps it was inevitable that he would one day learn to mix records starting with Kraftwerk and Model 500 – now a band member of Galaxy 2 Galaxy, Interstellar Fugitives and The Aquanauts. Learning guitar and playing in rock and funk bands this strengthened his persona and is evident in releases ‘Cruise Ship Killer’, ‘Frustrated’ and ‘Slide, Skate’.

In Room Two Alexander Ross from Ibadan Records and Quell from Phobic & Siteholder and Room Three will host London based outfit Cut & Shut Disco.

Thu, 20 Nov 2008there is nothing wrong liking magic juan and hawtin though i dont. i use to like hawtin in the 90's, use to think he was a real pioneer but these days his music, ideas, concepts etc do nothing for me. his music has lost all its detroit identity. minus and underground resistance could not be more different!!!
