Adjacent to midtown''s Dream Hotel, this bi-level Mediterranean-American restaurant is housed in a decadent 7,000-square space evocative of a Baroque-inspired European palace. Sound dramatic? It is, but striking at the same time. Expect candlelit walls, leather clad barrel-vaulted ceilings, exposed brick and stone surfaces and stunning Chinoiserie wallpaper in the upstairs dining room. A subtle reference to the restaurant''s proximity to adjacent Dream Hotel and name of Sigmund Freud''s mother, Amalia is the artistic vision of Chris Sheffield and Steve Lewis of SLDesign (Aspen, Marquee, Butter), layering custom hand-painted wall coverings, fabrics and ornate fixtures with striking architectural elements such as leather clad barrel-vaulted ceilings and existing brick and stone wall surfaces.
