Meanwhile Records Party

How good is this label? If you thought that the legacy of devastating deep techno didn't extend beyond Detroit and Berlin, here's something to make you think again. Meanwhile have produced a series of twelves of the most refined and emotive minimal techno you could possibly imagine. We were floored within minutes of checking 'Puncture' for the first time, one of those pieces of tightly machined dance music which manages to be precise yet profoundly emotional. Barely tangible melodies hover over the skeletal, minimal bass and drums soundbed, a readymade joint for the early hours. Dubby steppa of a tempo, pushing like a seminal Chain reaction release, this is the new skank, pure and simple.

Fri, 05 Dec 2008@ DJT: you're absolutely right: there were a lot of older records in Bovill's set as well, definitely with a detroit flavour.

Fri, 05 Dec 2008This was house & techno in its purest form,
if you went to sequence or w/house project you definately missed out.
Bovill's set comprised of mainly detroit techno spanning the last two decades and 'dub techno' that existed long before the genre did. I find it surprising that the reviewer had to namecheck
Dettmann and Berghain when Octave one, Rob Hood, R-tyme, Mills, DJ Skull, Model 500 etc. were all so prominent.
Cheers meandyou, keep it up!

Wed, 03 Dec 2008This sounds great Colin. I still haven't heard 'Psychotic Photosynthesis' out anywhere.

I'm now seriously considering buying a season ticket to Manchester.
