Lottie, Tom Neville, Guy Williams, Kath Harding
For Hoofers of all persuasions!
Many years ago, after the initial excitement of house, rave etc had died down, the sky over London was black. Then two stars, distant from us and distant from each other, flickered into life and started to glow. One of these flaming orbs was Guy Williams. He was playing mainly for the boys. The other was Kath Harding. She was playing mainly for the girls. But, in spite of the lessons we have learnt from Ghostbusters, it is actually OK to cross the streams. So these two celestial bodies began to orbit each other and now they have fused and it is time for all the boys and girls of Earth to stand within their massive shaft of light. HOOF is the new night devised by these two great thinkers of the modern era.
But let us not get too excited too early and make a mess. Let us first tiptoe through their respective histories:
Guy started out in Manchester playing the great clubs of the North (the Hacienda, Vague and Trash). In 1997 he came to London. Since then he has been working on several fronts: He has worked at Jive Records, Defected Records, DTPM Recordings and is currently label manager at Whynotnow Recordings; he has also held DJ residencies at Trade, DTPM, Ministry of Sound and recently began promoting Black Rabbit one of London’s coolest underground parties; and he has remixed Roisin Murphy, Roachford and, Grace Jones and had releases on Houseworks, DTPM Recordings and Pop Pop records. His forthcoming release - Take No Prisoners - is coming out on Tom Neville’s excellent label Love Minus Zero.
Kath Harding started out in South Africa as just a kid with a dream. Arriving in London at the same time as Guy (1997) she has worked her way up from the pubs of West London, via engagements at Soundshaft and French Kiss to the giddy heights of Smack at The Egg, Market at Fabric, The Dirty Red Ball and her own night: WiSH. Over the last three years she has built WiSH from a small night in a basement in Soho to the multi-floored giant that stands by Commercial Street much like the Colossus of Rhodes.
Clearly these geniuses of the turntables know their onions music-wise. But, they also have life experience and wisdom whilst still being agile, quick and physically impressive. From their monolithic speakers shall spill forth Deep House, Nu Disco, Tech House and Warm Techno, in fact everything good that has been recorded anywhere ever. This is a night made for music lovers by music lovers.
But it’s not just what they will play that is going to lead you down the road of excess to the palace of wisdom. It is the whole package. HOOF is going to be held at the greatest venue London has known since Shakespeare’s original Globe had a Disco Inferno. Ghost is also London’s newest venue. Kath and Guy are also going to be joined by the best DJs in the world starting with Lottie and Tom Neville. They also plan to bring the fun back to clubbing. The name alone will bring a smile to your lips (after they have drawn back from making the ‘oo’ sound in HOOF).
You want The Hoof? You can’t handle the Hoof. Check it out at Ghost on Thursday 9th April. So stop dribbling on your pillow and let the Hoof Fairy put a surprise under it.
