Hip-Hop is often thought of as a macho, sexist world where the fairer sex are only ever thought of as hoes and b*tches. Here at The Doctor’s Orders we like to fight this preconception. Believers in equal opportunity and that the ladies are as an important part of our parties as anything, after all who wants to go to a Hip-Hop party just full of sweaty dudes?
With spring fully in the air we decided it was about time the wealth of female talent here in the UK got their chance to shine alongside the men so resident Spin Doctor has hand picked an all-star line up of UK talent that will be fighting it out at London’s No.1 Hip-Hop party in The Doctor’s Orders: Battle of The Sexes.
As ever we The Doctor’s Orders like to match the very best DJ talent with the very best DJs from throughout the underground Hip-Hop scene to bring the best possible line ups for our dedicated crowd. Tonight is no exception with the phenomenal talent that is Royce Da 5’9” joining us from Detroit to show why he has been busy working with everyone from DJ Premier & Dr Dre to Eminem & Busta Rhymes. Already a favourite in the club this show is sure to secure his status with heads.
Holding it down for the fellas & the UK is a wealth of the finest talent this country has ever produced. Killa Kela has forged a unique path for himself on the UK scene and single handedly put the art of beatboxing back on the map making a way for the likes of Faith SFX & Flutebox to come through since. With a secession of albums and a live show that has seen him travel the world Kela is never more at home than when at Herbal where he and his Spit Kingdom crew ran a their weekly night for 3 years. Expect to be blown away by the extraordinary talents of the man who makes the music with his mouth.
Joining Kela & Royce on stage and celebrating the launch of their new “A Loop Theory” album are heroes of the UK scene Asaviour & DJ IQ. While both share production credits on the album Asaviour handles mic duties and IQ shows the talents on the cut that saw him win the U18’s DMC on a masterpiece of leftfield Hip-Hop that is sure to blow The Doctor’s Orders regulars away when performed live. With this being the official launch of the album we could expect some surprise guests from the host of stars that appear on wax many of whom are well at home on stage at Herbal already.
Representing the ladies are two of the UK’s most respected DJ and radio talents. Growing up in household of professional musicians it is little wonder that Sarah Love was attracted to the sounds of Jazz, Soul and later Hip-Hop. Having cut her teeth as a resident at London’s legendary Kung Fu night she has gone on to lock down spots on 1xtra and MTV as well as gigs around the globe all of which have provided her the chance to express her passion for music to thousands. Tonight gives her another opportunity to show this enthusiasm that saw her nominated for a best club DJ MOBO, at London’s No.1 Hip-Hop party.
Joining Sarah is the lady considered by Jazzy Jeff to be “the best female DJ I have ever heard in my life” DJ KAYPER. At the tender age of 25 there is little that Kayper has not already managed. Having been the first lady to win Vestax’s Juice DJ competition she has gone on to rock some of the most prestigious clubs around the world and now pioneer’s new music to the world through BBC’s Asian Network on which she has welcomed guests including Common, ?ustlove of The Roots & Lupe Fiasco to name just a few. When it comes to rocking clubs Kayper knows what it takes having been resident and promoter of her own Ebonics night in Cambridge for years, so rest assured you are in very safe, well manicured, hands with Kayper on the set.
Finishing the line-up for the lads is The Last Skeptik a busy young man what with producing beats for everyone from Hip-Hop luminaries Jehst & Sway to indie favourites Get Cape, Wear Cape Fly and DJing throughout the country for many of the scene’s best MCs. It is on the decks where he comes into his own as he will display with this warm up set for the gents tonight.
